Sexing and Characteristics:

Males have very large jowels, they also have two bulges near the vent. young tegus need to be probed by an experienced person.

Substrate and Water Needs:

Clean water should be provided at all times, the water dish should be big enough for the tegu to soak in, cat litter boxes make great dishes. change the water daily. several inches or more of orchid bark, cypress mulch, dirt, or coco bedding is needed, do not use newspaper, carpeting, sand, or anything that is udigestible, toxic, or a sheet of somesort.

Lighting and UVB:

UVA and UVB lights should be used 12 hour a day, for both juveniles and adults. reptisun 5.0 and 10.0 lights work exellently, if weather permits, this can be substituted with a hour a day of unfiltered sunlight (glass and fine screen will filter out sunlight).

Temperatures and Humidity:

The hot end should be 100-110 degrees, this can be provided with a heat pad or lamp, the cool end should be 80-85 degrees, night temps can drop to 70.
NEVER USE HOT ROCKS!!!!!!!
these can over heat and are very dangerous! keep the substrate slightly moist

Heating and Equipment:

What you need:
several inches of cypress mulch/ dirt/ orchid bark/ coco bedding
a heat light/ pad
a reptisun
2 hide boxes
1 water dish
1 6 by 3 foot long cage at least

Caging Provided:

B/w tegus need at least a 3 by 6 foot cage, two feet tall, larger is recommended, hatchlings can be housed in a 30 gallon cage, be sure not to keep a baby in a large cage, as this can cause stress to the tegu.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Fish, fruits, veggies, eggs, rodents, bugs, poultry and vitamins all make a good diet.

THINGS TO FEED ALOT OF:
rodents, bugs, fruits, veggies, poultry

THINGS TO FEED OCCASIONALLY:
eggs, fish, vitamins/ calcium
feed everyday to every other day, give a varied diet.
DO NOT HAND FEED YOUR TEGU!
not at any age, if you do your tegu will asosiate hands with food, and you WILL get bit, tegus bite very hard.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Feed supplements several times a week.

Maintenance:

Clean the cage every week, change the substrate every month or to. change the water daily, and whenever you see a poop, remove it imidiately.

Tegus make great pets, but are not for begginers, dont look at this caresheet once and then get a tegu, includein this sheet, you must read ALOT before even purchaseing the first item for your tegu, if you cant provide the prober care, consider getting another species. b/w tegus are very gentle if raised properly.
