 Spiny Tail

I dont really know where to post this so I am posting it here. The pet shop that I go to locally has a desert spiny lizard. I have never heard of it and I have tried to research it but I cant find anything about it? Is there another name for it or what? I want to get it out of the shop it is in now. She has it in a 5 and a half gallon, it appears to be full grown, and It looks cramped but I dont want to get something I cant take care of. I have 2 anoles and a long-tail lizard (grass lizard) are they similar? Any help wpuld be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!

Sounds like a type of uromastyx

or maybe a spiny tailed monitor... also known as an Ackie

If it is one of these... keep in mind they are both pretty large species; especially compared to anoles or grass lizards. You will need at bare minimum a 40 gallon breeder for either of these... though i would recommend bigger for the ackie. If you donft have more advantage than anoles or grass lizards an impulse buy on one of these is highly inadvisable

Link Is this it? If so, then it is basic desert reptile care, feed crickets, 100+ basking spot, low humidity etc. Just use your Imagination.

Just look up some information of its natural habitat and diet, then take that information, along with a basic desert reptile set-up (low humidity, 100+ basking apot, sand substrate, etc.) and use you best judgement on cage size. Once you have a basic set-up you can listen to the lizard and if it becomes unhealthy or unactive, find the error in your husbandry and correct it.

Ive seen these guys in the wild, I do live in their native state of arizona, they are very flighty and hide in burrows, so a deep substrate like plain dirt or sand mix would be best, and usually are at very gnary thorny brush, and near water. Dont handel them and leave them alone, they are very fast and have large territory so a large cage should be offered. In my opinion they are quite similier to collard lizards, they eat insects, other lizards, and occasional plant matter.

The fact that UV is needed for any reptile is debatable, but if you decide that you need it, go for a Mercury Vapor Bulb, because they are the only ones that actually emit useable amounts of UV, the long, tube bulbs have been shown to provide so little that no reptile will find them useable. Or why dont you just use a good D3 vitmian suppliment, instead of leaving it to a bulb? (I use Miner-All)
