 Help picking a lizard.

I need help picking a lizard I want. There are a few I have thought about. First theres the crested gecko. they are nice but i have heard that their tail come off rather easily and they seem kind delicate. Then I also like emerald swifts but from what i hear they are very good for holding which is pretty much what i want a lizard for. I was aslo thinking about possibly a long-nosed leopard lizard but its hard to find info on them and i cant find any for sale. if possible i would like a gecko. and i need something at least moderatly easy to take care of. basically it needs to be docile and easy to handle and take care of. any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. thanky you.

Crested geckos tails are known to come off a bit easy, but I have 11 at the moment, getting more soon, but none of mine have a missing tail. Just don’t grab them by the tail, don’t scare them half to death, don’t slam their tails in the top or anything, and if you really really don’t want it to come off, don’t house it with another gecko just to be safe. I wouldn’t recommend an emerald swift.... What about a leopard gecko? I would definately recommend either a crested gecko or a leopard gecko...

If you want a handleable gecko I would suggest a leopard gecko(Leo) or an African fat tailed gecko(aft). The aft is a much calmer gecko while the Leo would like to explore more than be held. This may help a little. A jack Russel terrier and a Yorkshire terrier are both in the terrier group and very easy to take care of but the jack Russel is a "get up and play" dog while the Yorkie is a "love me hold me" dog. The aft is the Yorkie and the Leo is the jack Russel. Did that make sense?

The only problem with aft’s is, if you are worried about tails dropping, they are in my experience, one gecko that almost always drops it’s tail. I VERY rarly find an aft with it’s original tail.

What would be appealing to u? Like unusual? Um if you want an unusual herp then may I suggest a uromastyx. They are a full vegetarian (no meat insect or other). I would also suggest a colarred(sp?) lizard. They can come in colors from brown (I believe western) to blue(aquaflame?). Good luck!

by appealing i mean something that looks good. Like a leopard chameleon or rainbow lizard or just a bright color like green. now im kinda leaning towards getting a jackson’s chameleon. I did some research and the seem easy enough to take care of plus i like the horns. i would really like to talk to someone who has first hand experience with them.

Have you looked at Mountain Horned dragons? They are usually quite docile and are relatively easy to care for. They can also be quite colorful and even change their color to some extent.
As far as Jacksons chamelions go they do get pretty big so be prepared for it to need a big enclosure. If you want to talk to someone with first hand experience try the Chamelion forum.-Cody

Bearded dragons love to be handled and are very calm and interactive....
