Get a bucket. Put in 1 parts bleach to 10 parts water. Put the bucket and tank in your tub. Use a Sponge to dip in bucket and apply to tank surface (inside and out). Don’t soak your tank in bleach water, don’t soak your tub in bleach water. Use gloves and clothes you don’t care about.

Once you’re done, rinse the tank until you are absolutely certain that the bleach is gone. From there air out the tank in an open room (or outside) for 12 hours or until you can no longer smell bleach.

If you’re dealing with parasites, you may want to do this every week for 2 months while you administer the dewormers. I usually use two tanks in this so the lizard doesn’t have to suffer.

Bleach is pretty killer, and not just to the parasites. I prefer to spray first with vinegar, then peroxide. You can’t premix, as the disinfectant qualities are brief. You can bake any of the branches and stuff, 350 for 30 mins is fine.

thanks for the replies. my tank is way too big to take it down and clean it. i was just cleaning his fake logs anyways. what i did was let everything soak in a 10 gallon bin of water that had 2 capfulls of bleach in it for about half an hour. i rinsed everything good and now im letting the smell go away. in his cage i am using newspaper and bardbord boxes as hides and sebstrate so i can just throw it all away and put in new stuff.

That is the beauty of the peroxide and vinegar. You can spray your tank with one, then the other. Wipe it down, let the smell disappate, then you are good to go. Got rid of my parasites! And it won’t harm your lizard. Unlike bleach. If you knew what it does to you, you wouldn’t use it.

i would have done something else like that vinegar peroxide thing accept all the stuff was out of my tank and in her laundry room. so she was making me get it out right then. i will not be putting the stuff back in untill i know he is rid of parasites anyways so by then the bleach smell will be gone.

thanks anyways.
