 What is this?

Hi, I know very little about lizards and I am hoping you can help tell me what type this is. I found this little guy in my house this morning. It is January and I live in the south west of France. We have tons of little common brown lizards from spring to fall. I never see any in the winter. It hasn’t been cold (around 54F, 13C) and has been rainy. It is about 4 inches long and I have never seen one like this before. Any idea what it could be? thanks

It looks like some sort of salamander or newt best bet it to leave it outside or put it in a dry place around your area.

It’s a salamander-I have seen that kind before but I can not recall the type. Try to post on caudata.org to see if they know what kind it is.

Its a Fire salamander. They live in Europe mostly around Frnce and Italy. Good luck! If you don’t want to keep it put it outside where it is moist.
