I’m in Lower South carolina, It was about 6 in long snout to vent, it was a very dark color with spines behind the head. it almost had the body build of a beardie. It’s belly was about a cream color,with two bluish patches
on the sides of iit’s belly. Verry fiesty when I picked it up at first. I’ll try to put up photos that dont get blocked.

it kinda sounds like a eastern fence lizard
they have blue on their bellies
and the "spines" you might be seeing may just be beacause spinys, swifts, and fence lizards have keeled scales with little spikes that go smooth with the scales
they get about six inches long not much longer
but pics could mor identifie the lizards

Yeah probally a fence they seem to be common down there. Wish I could find lizards around here :( I’m in Ohio.
