Cabarton is a Red Bone Hound and Australian Shepherd mix. He can open our back door (although he is not a house dog)!

This is his sister, Pebbles

This is a funny picture of Pebbles

Yesterday I went to my first Reptile expo expecting to come out empty handed, we bought a curly tailed lizard! I can’t get a good pic of her because she is skittish.

This is my first one. Google one, when they are hunting or excited they either curl their tails or twitch them. Mine seems to switch her tail. I think they are skittish, mine is. Here is a caresheet I found :Link Are you thinking about getting one? Here is something ThesaurusRex said sometimes works for taming fence lizards:

Quote:

Ah, okay.

Well, it’s all a matter of acclimation I suppose. Is his tank in your room or in a place where you are in most often? That always helps.

I would recommend starting out with hand feeding. Try something like crickets first, if that doesn’t work try waxworms. He should be able to feel like he can just hop on your hand to get the waxworm. It may take a while, but this step is all to show him that your hand does no harm. After he’s okay with that, try just lightly stroking his back while he’s inside the tank. Do this for a while too. Eventually he should be totally used to your hand.

And now for the next step, actually handling him. You’re going to want to slide your hand (With the palm of your hand facing the ground) below the lizard, not above, and then gently hover your index finger under his chin. Then rotate your hand, which in turn makes the lizard stand taller. Your middle finger should be under his belly, your index finger should be under his chin, and your thumb should be on top of his neck. The rest of your hand needs to support him. Support is KEY.

Another way to do it is by approaching him from the front instead of the side, and using your middle finger to lift him up. Start with his chin, and then keep going down until you reach his belly. Slide the rest of your hand under him as well. He’s prone to try to escape and run into his hide, but this way he will be in control. The first way I told you should be the default way, though. Keep holding him, petting him, and etc. and he will get used to you.

One other way I got mine used to handling is waiting until early morning to pick him up, when he’s real cold and hard to move. You may want to turn off the under-tank heater for this. Pick him up out of the substrate, and make sure he is supported by your fingers. Hold him and pet him until he warms up, then put him back in.

Eventually, he’s going to realize that you’re a part of his daily life and will be perfectly willing to let you handle him. But it’s going to take a very long time. Remember, though, that these guys can be unpredictable, and decide to go off and explore at any given time, even if it looks like he’s okay! Mine doesn’t do that anymore, but he used to do it a lot.

Its called a u. Geryi or red Saharan uromastyx. The red guys are much less common. I also have a yellow one but idk what is up with her? Her growth is stunted I know my 6’x2’x2.5’ cage is high enough??? I got a blurry pic of her here she is

She is probally 8 inches long? I bought her thinking g yeah she is really young and can’t wait till she gets bigger than Rex! But sadly that never happened. I dunno if I said this either but "old Rex" up there (my red ) is actually sick he has an intestinal disorder were water can’t escape fast enough.I want to take him to a vet but there aren’t ant around my small town. I think he is getting it because he is old though. I’ve given him the best and happiest life I possibly can so he lived his expectancy
