 Rocks for tank

Would old rocks from a saltwater tank work in a tank for my Anoles? They are commonly known as "live rock" though they are no longer live. Thanks for any help

If they were actually used in a salt water tank with fish, I wouldn’t. There are chemicals that are used in fish tanks (to keep the fish alive and healthy) that can hurt the lizard, especially if it’s long dried on the rock. The only thing to do to remove the stuff is to bleach it, however with something porous like ’live rock’s it’d be a nightmare waiting to happen - as you wouldn’t be able to get all the bleach off the rock before introducing it into the tank. So it’s better just to get all new rocks for the anole.

What you would also want to do is bake any rocks you find -- 300 degrees for 15 minutes, I believe. That will kill most things living on it.
