 IS THIS GOOD?????
I’m getting a bearded dragon and i need to know if these supplies are good.:basking light, UVB/UVA light, thermometer, water dish, calcium, crickets, pellets, veggies, fake log, net, leafs, and a rock. Also a 20 or 30 gallon tank for a (about 2 and a half inch)baby. I know the tank is good for now but how long till i’ll have to get another? A couple of months? Years? Help:)

hi my name is jenn. i think that that is perfect, but is that all for a baby ? i think that that is a very good size tank and that it will last you for a long time. the lizard will only grow to the size of the tank that you put it in. i think that is a good size tank.

Jenn- i suggest that you read up on things before you give people advice. bearded dragons and other lizards DO NOT GROW TO THE SIZE OF THE TANK. i do not know where you heard that, but it is not true at all.
Lizard- a 20 gallon, or even a ten gallon will be fine for a baby bearded. you will need a larger tank when the lizard reaches about 4 months of age, depending on how well it is fed and how big it gets in that time. you will need a 50+ gallon aquarium to house a healthy adult bearded dragon.
what are you going to use as a substrate? what are you going to feed it?

oh! sorry, i meant that if the cage, lets say for instance,.... ummm... you have your lizard in a 10 gal tank than they will not grow to be the size of it!lololol i meant to say that they will grow to be the limit sort of that they can be in that size of the tank. lol so sorry. :P they can stop growing for a while.

that is still not true. you have a 10 gallon tank and an iguana, that thing will get packed in there if it is fed and has the right light. it will not stop growing. same with bearded dragons. lizards never stop growing. that is why they shed their skin. as babies, they grow very rapidly, and they slow down once they reach about a year of age, and bearded dragons have a growth spurt around 18 months old. but they still never stop or slow growing no matter what they are in.

Yes you havethe right things for a baby beardi you will need a bigger tank than full grown. but u will be a awsome beardi mommy.Jennandclifford. my 8 yeard old nephow Knows that the reptil will NOT grow to the size of there cage. Ok, I can’t even say what I want to because I’ll get in trouble. One thing I must say though is that a breeder would not come on here and talk to people in that manner. If you have ever owned one you would know that they do grow regardless of the size of their enclosure.

Oops, I forgot you live in Canada and you have different kinds of things there lol When was a new species of lizard that looks like a bearded dragon but doesn’t grow discovered? I’m so sure they are running around in the snow up there.
So if that is the case, then you are speaking of a different species, so you shouldn’t be giving advice on the bearded dragon pogona vitticeps.

that is a complete myth....a lizard wil not only grow to the size of its tank but will outgrow it and become very stressed and some have even been known to have their tales break off from the lack of room.

actualy snakes and lizards outgrow their enclosures, it was also a myth used on fish....which also outgrow enclosures, environment is not a limiting factor for size for a healthy well fed animal. The animal will grow, stress, and die if kept in to small an environment.

Oh, thanks for correcting me, but I know that turtles don’t outgrow their cage, I went to a friends house, and he has two three year old Painted turtles in a 10-gallon tank, they are about 5".
I couldn’t tell them it was too small though, I didn’t wanna make them feel dumb...
But the turtles were wild caught and they were hoping to release in the wild soon (they caught them as babies(I don’t agree with taking from the wild) and they don’t know if the turtles know how to hunt (they ate turtle pellets)).-collin

Well then I respectfully submit that perhaps a combination of impropper lighting, less than perfect water conditions, possable temperature issues, and less than optimal diet, and maybe stress from overcrowding could have a bit to do with the possable lack of growth??

They have no lights, but they said they hoped to release them soon, so I didn’t bother telling them all the stuff.
They said they were gonna start making them catch minnows so they could hunt in their lake.
The water was almost filled to the top.
They looked happy and were shedding like crazy.-collin

yeah that sounds like everything and some lol before i got my dragon i spent months drawing out a vivarium fully set up when it finally came to buying my dragon i realised i didnt need half the stuff i thought. i got a vivarium, uv light, thermometer, and a heat light and some furnishings logs rocks etc once i sorted that out i thought about food so i got a tank 4 my crickets and a vit and min supplement and some veg.
one thing i dint account for was how quick my dragon would grow i got him in october and hes allready out growning his vivaium (4ft X 2 ft X 2ft) make sure you have the money to get a new tank in a few months
