 What lizard to get?

Hi! I want to buy a lizard, but have a very small budget. I would like a lizard that...
1. Is lower maitinence
2. Is nice and can be held and played with
3. Doesn’t cost that much and doesn’t have very expensive food and supplies
4. Is small enough to fit in a 1o gallon tank-even when full-grown
Can anyone help me? Thanks so much!

Leopard geckos fit all of your requirements. There are a few other species of terrestrial geckos that would do as well, such as pictus, fattail, and viper gecko.

That’s about it. Keep in mind that lizards are going to cost you more than you’ll expect in the end. They aren’t cheap. Not only will you have to set up the proper tank and conditions for the future lizard, but feeding it will take cash from your pocket and it’s required that you take your lizard to the vet for the initial checkup and twice a year for a fecal test (the fecal test will be about 15 dollars a trip).

Also remember that lizards aren’t toys, they take more responsibility than a cat or dog. For example, you can’t hold a lizard for more than a certain period of time without stressing them out considerably. And if the lizard stops eating or gets sick, you’re required to take it to the vet and/or handfeed it til it recovers.

Making sure you know all this before jumping into the reptile world. I don’t wanna see you get your hopes up and realize that a lizard isn’t what you were initially wanting to get.
