 Which?

Which reptile (besides turtles, and large animals) are able to live near water and are handle able. By this I mean a handle able reptile who can have a half land half water set up.

Since when are frogs and newts handleable? They are not. Handling stresses them out, and the toxins in your skin can severely hurt them, even cause them to suffocate.

Some handlable ones for semi aquatic tanks are garter snakes, ribbon snakes, and water dragons.

I would not recommend a water dragon they are always "jumpy" and need a huge cage.Water snakes are also to be added to Josh’s list. That is all I can think of unless you want a Anaconda(jk).

Water dragons arent always jumpy, i mean mine has her days.
She has been known to jump off my arm a few times.
But yes your right about needing a big cage, thats the only down side about them.

For those who responded I appreciate it. A water dragon is just a little to big. Ribbons and garters I know about, the water snake sounds like a cool idea. I’ll do research on them and see what I can find. Any water/ribbon/garter snake set up pics would be great.

Garter snake setup. The section on the left is a water section.

Water snakes can be good, but they need a very large setup for an adult because they are active snakes. 60+ gallons is more preferable.

It really depends i think. Some Water snakes may need a 60 gallon but i think most would be fine in a 30 or 40 gallon. I don’t mean to argue with you that is just my opinion.

That’s your poison arrow frog tank right? Als owater snake is out of the question, I really don’t think I can fit 60gal+ in my room. Sweet setup Josh.

Josh our Chineses water dragon would love a set up like that(onlybigger)
Water dragons do get big fast, got her April 05 she was like 7 inches long now shes 25 inches.
Yeah i listened to a person from a pet store that said " a 55 gal would be all you ever needed " think they say that knowing you will have to come back and get something bigger.
And they can be expensive, the cost of the Lizards not bad $ 35
but Ive already spent little over $ 100 in vet bills in 1 yr.
See thats another thing they do not tell you at the petstore :)

Emily, I wish my state wasn’t so damn tight with restrictions. A tiger man that would be awesome to see a loose tiger. Orb, this isn’t meant to be rude but I said handleable reptiles. Newts and salamanders are amphibians. Amphibians aren’t handleable. I already stated that i have no room for a water dragon. Thanks for responding though.

 Which?

Not really. They would either be found by an animal control division or they would disappear after they die (due to no tigers to breed with). If they could find other tigers to breed with, they would be an introduced species and an animal control division would find them sooner or later.

Most Water snakes can be housed in a 20-gallon 50/50 land water tank.
Broad-Banded and Northern Water snakes require only that, because having 50/50 land water tank increases available space in a 20-gallon.
I reccomend a land platform in a tank of water.

Do you have any setup pics? Also how much would the snake cost (the water snake you mentioned)? For a 50/50 I was thinking about making a divider in the tank with one side soil and plants, the other water (maybe some fish and water palnts in it).
