 Animal cruelty in a petshop!!!!

i live in the uk and i went to a petshop where i get my crickets but had a proper look at the animals from there, and i was sickened. If you dont want to get angry or annoyed or disgusted dont read on!!!

There were fully grown leopard geckos in a 6 inch by 8 inch plastcic contianers with very little ventilation.

snakes with a foot long enclosure

a crocodile with yellow water

ALL of the water bowls through out the pet shop were half full with green or yellow in them,

All animals had loose substrate

There were animals with NO humidity ie chameleons , anoles that essecially need it

snakes had a dead mice in with them uneaten

fully grown bearded dragons with no green food

Baby beardies with crickets too big for them

leopard geckos in the same tanks as tokay geckos, and standings gecko all in the same tank

To be honest I was appauled by the state of these animals and I just wanted to buy them all an give them each the proper care they deserve

Not as bad as some of what I have seen
3, 6 inch redfoot torts in a AQUARIUM around a 20 long size with lettuce with crap smashed all in the dish and no water not even a bowl

20 baby ball pythons in a 30 gallon with 1 floating dead in the water with dead shed wrapped around its head and neck

9 leopard geckos in a 5 gallon tank with 1 hide and babys on sand again no water dish

A Baby iguana in a 8 gallon

2 baby water dragons in a 8 gallon

Crested gecko in a 8 gallon not to bad but undusted crickets where running around all in the tank

Dead fire bellied toads in a 20 gallon around 25 a few where alive but really they where prolly not going to make it

and I would type more but the enclosures are pretty much all the same.........

when i went and got my first crested nano he was only in a 1 gallon tank, with undusted crickets, they werent feeding him no baby food or clarks diet. i BOUGHT HIM THOUGH BECAUSE THEY HAD JUST GOT HIM AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS. HE NOW LIVES A VERY GOOD LIFE.

they say that it is doing more bad than good if we buy animals from bad petshops or breeders because whatever we buy they could replace but with more and then they make a profit out of the animal. suffering or not.

But we just cant help ourselves if we see an animal in trouble, can we?

I saw this sickening thing happen at petsmart. When someone had picked a leo the had the hidebox up to the side of the cage .they took one out and set the hide box on another baby leo and it got smushed. IT was sad.

I’ve seen 20 newborn leos cramped in one hide box in a 7 gallon tank in a Petco before, but now they have healthy, fat leos with their own tanks, but I still see some stupididity, for example, a green tree frog was dead and was probably dead in the cage for quite a while. It looked like it died of dehydration and the crickets were as big as the frog itself.

yeah i sent a letter to the ceo of petco about the condition of the animals in their store and I got no response. this weekend i’m gonna send it priority mail.

I work at Petsmart, in specialty, I started working here because no one in our store really knew about herps. I am glad to say that since I have started working all of our animals are in tip top shape and getting very fat.

But sometimes it just depends on the store and who works there.

thats so weird b/c the petco near me is really great with all its animals, including the herps. i currently have a job at petsupermarket, which is opening friday. ive been spending my days putting together ferret and bunny cages, jeez those things are a pain! we rarely get herps, usually iggys if any, but i can promise u every animal in that store is gonna get the best care. all three of us kids they hired have collections of various animals and a great love for them. its gonna be a great store
