 Well, From the Picture...

The snake had obviously eaten a meal recently; if it was a lizard that wasn’t dead and managed to break one of its claws out of the esophagus wall, well . . .

From an evolutionary standpoint, the picture is nonsense otherwise; vestigial legs on large constrictors aren’t unknown, but this limb is in the wrong place and cockeyed . . .

And of course there’s always Photoshop . . . Elsewhere on the web I’ve been in some pitched battles with some of the Creationist/ID crowd, and the dishonesty of those yayhoos has to be seen to be believed (one reason I can be so caustic here is because I’ve dealt with them for so long, and they’ve thoroughly earned the dissin’ I hand them). That can’t be discounted as a possibility, but I lean toward my first suspicion.

And now, after a second look, I noticed the link was to the UK "Telegraph," which by coincidence just ran a likely erroneous story on the Darwin film, Creation, at the Toronto Film Festival and how it couldn’t get North American distribution because of "anti-evolution" prejudice. Other news accounts point to tight money and the recession as the factor behind the lack of financing.

I’m unfamiliar with the reputations of the British news sources; they are often collectively referred to as "tabloids" here, which is doubtless sometimes unfair . . . I would invite our British Isles friends on this board to comment on that journal’s credibility... And on that end, I see they’ve got a story linked about a legendary "man-eating raptor" that lived in Polynesia until 500 years ago . . . They’re even claiming to know what color the feathers were . . .

Uh, I know about an extinct bird known as the dodo, and these pseudo-journalists may be descended from that avian...

Avian? The bird couldn’t even fly.

 Couldn’t Even Fly . . .

Well, I hope that is true for this story . . .

Ostriches are (and dodos were) avians . . .

Birds (class Aves) are winged, bipedal, endothermic (warm-blooded), vertebrate animals that lay eggs . . . Most paleontologists regard birds as the only clade of dinosaurs that survived the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event approximately 65.5 Ma.

Ah, I thought one bird didn’t even have wings, but I guess it does, but just barely . . .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi

Link

Their adaptation to a terrestrial life is extensive: like all ratites they have no keel on the breastbone to anchor wing muscles, and barely any wings. The vestiges are so small that they are invisible under the kiwi’s bristly, hair-like, two-branched feathers. While birds generally have hollow bones to minimise weight and make flight practicable, kiwi have marrow, in the style of mammals. With no constraints on weight from flight requirements, some Brown Kiwi females carry and lay a single 450 g (16 oz) egg.

Interesting about the marrow in the bones; gonna bag me a Creationist with that one... And this bird is roughly the size of a chicken and lays a one pound egg . . .

Way more interesting stuff than a supposed snake with an arm . . .

Even the story is BS the snake would not be able to control the arm in any way she said that it swiftly ran across suspended curtains using 1 leg. There is no possible way a leg facing up could hold and animal of that size and be able to run swiftly. The story is a complete hoax.
