 Lump by vent on hatchling?

Ok so went to feed one of the baby corns tonight. Picked her up and noticed her vent looked swollen. At first I thought she had to poop but after a few hrs and it hasn’t gone away I decided to check it out. I applied light pressure just enough so I could feel it. Felt like a small soft pea. So I applied light pressure and pushed down towards the tail. She then what look liked pooped but there was liquid in it to. The swelling went down massively but looks like there is still a small lump there. Is this normal? What causes something like this to happen? If it re appears should I be worried and have it checked out or should I do the same thing and drain it so to speak my self?

This is what it looked like before I did anything to it Not a great picture but you can see the swollen vent. No there was no blood that came out just some white then yellow then clear then yellow. After I applied pressure it drained/she pooped for a good 20 seconds then it stopped, it did seem a little running but her butt was hanging off my finger so. While she pooped or was draining she laid there like aww that feels better. Her bedding is aspen bedding. It didn’t seem to bother her while I was messing with her vent. Well no more then the usual what are you doing doing there. When her vent scales were pushed out it did look white in color underneath her scales. It was almost like she was constipated. After doing this the lump was ten times smaller. Don’t get me wrong it didn’t just dissappear but you could tell where it was. I don’t know if snakes have similar anal glands to dogs, cuz I know sometimes I have to do the similar pressure thing to my dogs. Since they get left overs stuck and sometimes and I have to apply pressure to make them excrete the left overs so they don’t become inpacketed. 1 sign is the butt rubbing on the carpet.

You may have caught them in the act of urinating? They usually pee before they poo (or so I’ve seen) and are hard. It’s best to leave them alone to do it on their own, forcing it through probably isn’t fun for the snake. Is there anything sticking out of the vent now? If there’s something pink still there, put her on paper towel that is soaked with sugar water. It may be prolapse that needs to stay moist in order for there to be any chance it goes back in by itself.

Well not sure what it was but as of last night the lump is completely gone and her vent has returned to normal. I just thought it was odd since I’ve never seen that on any of my snakes. If by some chance it does re appear I will try to take a better picture to show everyone.

I didn’t really force I applied enough pressure to feel what it was but moved my fingers towards the vent. After I stopped it was about a minute or so later is when she released what ever it was for a good 20 seconds.

Ok this may sound stupid on my part but what does the sugar soak towel do for the snake? Only asking since I’ve haven’t read anything or heard that before.

Prolapses cause tissue from inside (either rectum or hemipenes) to get stuck outside the cloaca. That tissue needs to stay moist, and sugar helps keep water from drying out too fast. I used sugar water for one of my leos I was concerned about having hemipenal prolapse. I only had to put new wet paper towels in there once a day, as opposed to misting with plain water several times a day.

Got ya I didn’t know that about sugar water learn something new everyday I guess specially with these slithering fellows. Thanks for the tip. I’m still keeping her under observation and probably will for a week or so just to be sure she’s ok.

I had an infected / pimple under 1 scale of my bull snake ...it popped like a pimple but also a small amount of blood / clear infection oozed out also. I healed with some antibiotic applied topically.

Many lizards and snakes get prolapse of the cloaca , especially with egg laying....As Reflex said the poultice of sugar laden water cloth or paper towel will help in many cases.

Glad it all went back to normal..!
