Nice, ya the male is the one with the solid green stripes, the female has the broken pattern. Give the female some time, she’ll need some time to adjust to her new surrounding. My female is very shy, even after 6 months. Also, mine are almost never in the water dish, they prefer to drink and soak in big leaves that hold water after misting.

Pick up the May 2007 issue of REPTILES magazine. There was a large article on these guys.

Japalura’s thrive if cared for and housed the right way. You need a large (TALL) tank, for a pair, AT LEAST 24" high and 18" wide. Like most reptiles they thrive in real sunlight, I take mine outside in a screen enclosure when the weather is nice, it increases activity and appetite as well. I also keep 2 UVB compact bulbs on them during the day.

Most important for these lizards is humidity, compare to a Mountain horned dragon. At least 40-50% all times. An airstone in their water dish is a necessity, as well as heavy misting at least 2x a day. I’ve seen japaluras lose toes (or pieces of) due to low humidity.

These lizards tame well and become docile with frequent handling. Even though they are very flighty.

Any more questions... Ask.

Glad I could help, love these lizards!

Ok, I am asking! For how long you are keeping japalura splendida? I got them 10 days ago. Two youngsters sex unknown yet. I searched the whole internet and i guess it’s useless to continue with this as i don’t think i’ll find more info that i already did. I’ll be thankful for any tips ! Thank you, Beers and no frontiers and greetings from Slovenija.
