 Red headed agamas

Hi Rick,

I actually have a pair of Red head agamas also, and of course the female is pregnant too. She was pregnant when we adopted them. Unfortunately there is not alot of info on them. We took her to a vet, even the vets here in CT don’t know anything about them. I adopted them in January of this year and she is still carrying the eggs, I keep having conversations with her telling her to lay the eggs, but does not listen. The vet here said that if she does not lay the eggs, they will have to do surgery on her, and will cost like $500.00, but it is a $500.00 risk that she may not make it through because they don’t know anything about them. The male is funny, he will turn colorful alot and do alot of head bobbing!!!
Your probably just needs time to adjust to his habitat. Hope some of this info helps!!!
Tracy

TMcCrory

thanks for the reply. I did read on one web site that they will carry the eggs for 3 to 4 months. however I do not know how reliable that info is. I have only had mine for 2 weeks now but they seem to be doing well. Both my male and female both do alot of head bobbing, it looks funny. I would hold out on that surgery for a bit. Mabe I will find some more info on them.

Rick James.

 Red headed agamas

We had one in the store i work at. We had her about 2 months before she had the eggs and I dont’ know how long before we got her. They were no good when she finally dropped them. No one knew what kind of substrait to coax her into laying. I tried wetting the sand under her hut. She finally layed them so maybe that was it.

 Red headed Agana’s

I did some research because one of my pair is sick. Found out that she may not lay if there is no
cave like structure in the cage, and that can kill her. I saw some stuff at the pet store that you mix with water and they can dig a cave of there very own. I am going to try it just for nail care.

I found a caresheet on Agamas and it said that they usually lay around June and the eggs hatch around August-September.
