 Chinese Tree Dragon (Japalura splendida)

Can someone with experience tell me some captive care tips. Tank size, substrate, temps., amount of dragons in a certain size tank...etc.

Go to http://www.reptilehabitat.com/chinese_tree_dragon_caresheet.htm. That’s my main source of info for now but I wanted others to clarify that correct info is being given out there.

I think that you should just take a look at other care sheets for agamas. Then compare them to the one from that site. Its a pretty cool looking lizard. Where are you getting it from, how much do they cost?
GOOD LUCK!

 Chinese Tree Dragon (Japalura splendida)

I have one of my own and I keep him in a 20 gallon tank by himself but he could probably go with one or two more comfortably. my Japalura seems to like the temperature range I have in the tank. most of the time he sits in the middle of the tank around 73-75*F but occasionally will move to one side or the other. the coolest i let it get is about 70F at night and the heat lamp side is at 83-85*F during the day.
he tends to sleep close to the night light at a temp of about 75*F at night.

I keep the humidity at 50% or higher. I try for 60% or higher because my japalura seems to like it the most when it is more humid.

I use bark flooring. (stay away from pine) could be poisonous. I also have set up a water-table to help with humidity using "hydro-balls"

the tank needs to have plenty of plants and hideouts areas. my japalura likes to squeeze himself between a rock and the tank I have placed in a corner. they like to climb and hang on the screen but can get frightened quite easily so they need to be able to make a short run or jump into some cover such as a plant or hide.

if i get pictures I will try to post them. there are only a couple care sheets on the web. try searching just Japalura or green striped tree lizard.

from what i have learned there are about 40 different classes for Japalura and each one has a different color. mine are green they are from Japan area. some are brown, they are from south Asia areas. Scientist don’t really know much about them but they have recently found several living together on one of the islands of Japan. not sure where exactly I just remember it from readings.

another tip that I have heard (don’t know if it is true)

you shouldn’t keep more than one male in the same tank and if you do it should be a large tank where they may not ever see each other. females are fine to keep with one male or together.
