Those crixs are too large. Its obvious that he is having trouble eating it. Try feeding crickets half that size.

I usually dont feed him that big of ones because i know it is dangerous but he hadnt eaten in days and I was out of small crickets so i had to feed him those until I got more crickets and mealworms......I usually feed him 3/8 crickets

If your ever in a bind like that, always watch him until it has been completely swallowed for 15 minutes. If he is showing now signs of choking after 15 minutes, you should be fine.

yea i always watch him eat, 1. Because its is amusing 2. because I check for problems.....He has never had problems with those. Even though it looks like he is struggling he is only struggling a tad. It took him like 30 seconds to swalllow that

Yes I know now that it was too big and that is clearly visible that he is struggiling. I feed him much smaller crickets and he eats about 4 or 5 now. I dont plan on doing that again though and I am trying to keep my lizard as healthy as he can be.

lol that cricket is not too big but you could probably feed him/her a little smaller crickets. One of my Alligator lizards is about 7 inches long, will eat large crickets and will eat 2 of them!

That cricket is larger than that lizards head, so yes it is too big. You should never feed crickets that are larger that the space between the lizard’s eyes, both in length and width(ex. Length between eyes on lizard is 1 inch. Therefore the cricket should be no longer than 1 inch and no wider than 1 inch).Feeding large crickets puts the lizard at a high risk of choking or ending up with a blockage in the intestines.

Northern Alligator Lizards can range as far south as mid-California according to the range map on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Alligator_Lizard#Range_and_habitat.
