 Help me....!

I’ve had a Alligator Lizard that I found in my bakcyard for about 6 months or so now, and it has been doing fine until recently. I don’t know what it wrong. But it started to shead probably about a month ago and it still hasn’t gotten the old skin off the back half of his body. Some of the sections of his tail look like they are getting erritated because the skin is getting too tight and blugging out. Specially his back left foot.... I am starting to get really worried. Could I cut or rip the skin off without hurting him? Should I take him to a professional?

HELP ME PLEASE!

Allies shed their skin like snakes. They need rocks and sticks to rub against. Your tank is way to bare. Also, pure sand is not a good substrate. It doesn’t hold moisture well. You should mix in some coconut fiber bedding.

As for the immediate problem. Give him a warm bath try using tweezers to remove the skin. If it doesn’t come off easily, stop! Rub some vegetable oil on him and wait for about an hour and then give him a warm bath again. He may need a vet visit due to the swollen areas on his tail. If its bad enough, part of the tail might need to be amputated.

I’ve found shedding difficulties to be more symptomatic of low humidity than not enough objects to hook the skin on. Your tank looks very dry aside from the water dish. Try making a little humid hide with some reptibark or bed-a-beast in it that you keep moistened. Or, switch from an all sand substrate to a substrate like reptibark that holds humidity better and periodically mist under the hides and overfill the water bowl.

Alright so I went and got a new set up for my cage, I still spray the cage twice a day like a did before [ once at night and once in the morning ] He loves his new cage, specially the trees, I didn’t know he liked to climb so much. xD The only think I am still worried about is that there is still some skin on three of his toes I can couldn’t just peel off... But I will keep an eye on it.

Here are some picture of the new cage and him in a tree. If I need to add anything just tell me.

I Have:
-Cocnut Soil
-Two Artifical Plants
-Log
-Large water dish
-Branches
-Smooth River Rocks
-Crickets [ with vitamins ]

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

With stuck shed on the toes, I usually set them up in a little tupperware with the bottom just barely covered with lukewarm water. I leave them in for 15 to 20 minutes. Sometimes after they’re done with the soak, the skin can be gently rolled off by rubbing down the foot. If it doesn’t roll off, take a fine pair of tweezers (I like the ones that come in pocket knives) and try to grab a hold of the skin and get it off. A good light and reading glasses can be very helpful. If the skin is left in place and there is any swelling, he may lose the toes. The new set-up looks great.
