I just saved an alligator lizard from my cat...

I really want to keep it. We own a tortoise, and my dad has owned snakes... however, Im not familiar with Alligator Lizards. Any pointers? Tips? Advice?
My cat’s practically waiting for me to let it go again... x_x
It’s tail fell off too. :( If I set it free, I can garuntee that it will be killed by either our dogs or cats.

Best option:
Set it loose somewhere in a field or forest, away from your cats. Right now, its just going to be even more stressed out because you don’t have a suitable habitat and I’m sure its not used to human contact.
If you want an alligator lizard then set a tank up before hand and purchase a sport fishing license. They aren’t that hard to find or catch.

If you really really really want to keep it, look at some care sheets and go buy a cage + supplies right away. You should be able to learn most things from the care sheets on this site and on google. Ask the rep at the pet store for some help. Also just reading through all the "HELP ME PLEASE" forums on this site have helped me a lot.

-Soil, or Coconut Fiber for substrate (you can mix in sand if you want).
-Water Dish ( recremened that at least half it’s body length can lay in it because alligator lizards don’t drink from dishes they drink the dew off the plants in the morning. )
-Crickets (+supliments)
-Lots of different hidding spots (twigs, rocks, fake plants *make sure they don’t have outside bateria* )
-Temperature and Humidity Gadges
-UVA & UVB lights
-20 gal to a 40 gal tank (depending on size)

I wish you luck. And please read the care sheet first before you decide to keep it. If the care sheet sound too intense then release the lizard in a nearby canyon and hope for the best.
