How to tell when a Texas Alligator lizard is pregnant I don’t have experience with Texas als, but I’ve never seen lumps in gravid southerns, northerns, or madreans; they just increase in girth. I’ve also never had my als lay more than one clutch in a season. I house a pair of southerns together, but do not cycle them; they breed and the eggs laid are usually infertile. The winter temperature drop appears to be essential for the production of viable sperm. If you didn’t simulate a winter cool down, you may want to try this next season. It’s also very important to make sure you als are healthy and to supplement generously with calcium.

Does it mean the female is pregnant when she starts to dig in the substrate that is on the bottom of the cage.

How to tell when a Texas Alligator lizard is pregnant It could. Or, there could be an escaped feeder lurking down there. If you set up a hide box with moistened substrate they’ll usually choose that to lay their eggs in.

My female is in an artifisual tree and the male is diging. Is the male trying to find a good spot for the female to lay the eggs.

How to tell when a Texas Alligator lizard is pregnant Males do not help at all with nest excavation and will often eat the eggs if they come across them. I’ve noticed incessant digging to coincide with mite outbreaks or uncomfortable temperatures or lack of secure hides. Do a double check to make sure none of this is the case.
