Remove the eggs or one of the als may decide to make a meal of them. I’ve had good success incubating eggs at room temperature (70s) in moist / not wet vermiculite. I usually go by feel when mixing up the media, but its about a 1:1 ratio of vermiculite to water by weight. I stop adding water when the vermiculite starts to feel damp and if you squeeze a granule really hard, water will bubble out. It’s better to err on the side of too dry than too wet; if the eggs start to dent you can always add a little more water.

The female should retreat into the nest box. Have a moist substrate in there for her to dig / lay in and check it every couple days once she goes in. It’s a good idea to leave the rest of the tank dry, to encourage her to use the nest box (it makes the eggs easier to find). Ascertain the female’s location regularly by checking the tank too, this way you’ll find her clutch if she lays outside of the nest box (if she’s not in the cage, she’s in the box so no need to check there too often). I try to minimize how often I check the nest box and only crack the lid a tiny bit to take a quick peak. You want her to feel comfortable in there.

I’ve always put the box on the surface. I like to buy the black boxes made for holding index cards and melting an entrance hole about midway up the side with a soldering iron.
