 Lost and fed

This is my third lizard. I found him in my car port when cleaning out boxes. She seems a long way from home. Non aggressive, easily caught and content. So far she’s eaten two earwigs a spider, and a huge amount of fishfood flakes, until I can get crickets,ASAP. It’s been twenty years since my last lizards and I didn’t have the internet then. In the last two weeks I’ve saved my hooded rat from pneumonia, a baby bird and this lizard from the clutches of the neighborhood cat. I’m in California in the middle of raging fires. Turning "snuggles" the lizard loose now might be a mistake. I’ll keep checking in, this site has helped a lot. I love my new friend, I hope I can give him the best home possible. My other comment is about feeding. When I was young, I was feeding my lizard meal worms. I had that one for a good year. One night he fell off his bridge and my mom and I immediately discovered, that a meal worm had eaten his eye. We were able to remove the worm. He didn’t last long after that. There was actually evidence in the worm to this fact. How is this possible for a worm to overtake a baby lizard like that?   Obviously, I’ll be feeding snuggles crickets, not worms. I’ll post Asap on how feeding goes i’ll keep posting.

This is Snuggles.

I believe any insect is capable of of doing such a thing to a lizard. If you read around, you will even find some horrible stories involving crickets munching holes in lizards. The best thing to do is only feed as much as he can eat. Don’t leave any live insects in the cage for more than a few hours.

However, crickets are the best choice. They are easier for the lizard to digest.

Where are the fires? How bad are they? I haven’t been watching the news lately.

My suggestion would be to drive him to a suitable habitat, away from the fires, and release him. It would be the best thing for him. If you want to keep him, you are going to need to have him checked out by a vet and you will need to purchase all the appropriate supplies.

To start off, get a 20 gallon long tank, Reptisun 10.0 UVB a T-12 bulb and a fixture, a basking bulb between 50-60 watts, a digital probe thermometer,Rep-Cal calcium with D3, Herptivite, a large flat water dish, and a hide. After quarantining him, you can buy more hides, decorations, and substrate like coconut fiber.

i dont think lizards come to each other’s rescue like that....not smart enough.

It’s nasty when the prey turns on the predator, I had a kingsnake that got bitten up by a mouse because she wasn’t eating, it took her a loooong time to rebound off that little escapade.
