if you have a baby alli id suggest findind some sugar ants and just feeding a few ants at a time and do it in another container or tank, dont put too many in just a couple. pin head crickets work too

I have another quesiton. My Alligator lizard is about 7.5-8" long, and I feed her medium crickets. She looks kinda like a snake eating a mouse, i mean the cricket is kinda big. Is that ok? Or should i feed her the tiny ones? I mean, ive been feeding her the bigger ones since I got her and haven’t seen any problems...

thats what mine look like when they eat, i have a male that is 4 inches long and he eats crickets that are a pretty fair size the big male and female eat large crickets and the biggest alli i have is only 8" long.

yea they do have a truly interesting way of seizing their prey, items known to be eaten in the wild vary from worms,insects and scorpians to fledging birds in nest to even accounts of diving in small ponds after tadpoles, which it’s awesome to watch them swim as they do so in true alligator/crocadilian manner arms/legs against the body and undulating of the body and tail

lol, thats what my bd’s do...swim like alligators and crocs...its kinda funny. Every time I feed my ally lizard I watch her eat, I just love the way they catch/eat their prey. Now I have a question for anyone that feels like answering...My AL is Wild Caught, she was half frozen to death in our barn (she shouldn’t be living this far north) so I took her in. I feed her crickets, but I was wondering if I could feed her bugs from outside. I occasionally give her spiders that I find in my room...I read that they can eat slugs??? lol...can someone just give me a basic list of bugs that they can eat? If you don’t mind that is....lol, I could even get lil minnows if she could eat those.....

bugs because of the fact that some cary parasites and some can kill ur bearded dragon
because of the toxins they carry especially if they are not used to eating outside bugs dont put any bugs
other than crickets or flies in there cause my friend had a bearded dragon he fed it slugs and grasshoppers and it died the next day from the grasshopper he gave it

when u feed them u have to pick them up. make sure u have gloves on so when they bite u don’t feel it. when they try to bite, put a meal worm in the other hand then they will eat! that is the only way.

Congratulations, you have given perfect information for stressing a lizard out. That is force feeding and it is only recommended when an animal is on the verge of dieing or unable to properly eat due to mutations in the bone structure or teeth, and even so it is still stressful for them. Just put the food in the cage for them. They aren’t like human babies; they know how to feed themselves.

Go to your local pet store, and see if they carry "pinhead crickets". Petsmart and Petco usually breed their own crickets so you would have better luck at those chains...

As far as mealworms go, you really should not be feeding him too many. They can possibly cause an impaction which would be life-threatening to your lizard. Mealworms are not necessarily bad though. They are high in protein and make good treats for alligator lizards. Just be careful with how many you feed him. I would say that one worm a week is okay.

For more help on how to care for him, I posted some facts on this thread Link. It is kind of lengthy, but hopefully it help :)
