 Alligator lizard changed! Help!

ok, remember I have that female alligator lizard? Well, she’s really changed. She’s darker and more tempermental. If I try to get her on my hand, she turns around and trys to bite me. And she seems to have gotten fatter. Is she going to shed or is she gravid? I have pics, I’ll post them in a minute

Theres the pics. Ignore the poop around her, I was cleaning the enclosure up and raking it into a pile when she came out and decided to sit in the middle of it. That’s when I noticed the changes. You can see in that last picture her aggressive behavior. I got the camera close up and she was gonna bite it.

Here’s pics of her before.

you can tell she’s alot friendlier, brighter and colorful in those pics.

 Alligator lizard changed! Help!

Awww, come on people!! I know that somebody out there has to be able to tell if an alligator lizard is gravid or not!!

I’ve already set her up in a seperate enclosure with the soil and stuff if she is gravid, but I’ve been waiting for a week and there are still no eggs. All she’s doing is sittling in one spot. Somebody please give their advice or even just an opinion!

Purely a guess, cuz it’s so hard to tell, but "she’s" probably changed cuz it’s a male. Males have broader heads, females tend to have slender heads no wider than the shoulders. Males are bigger and more angular. Males are also more colorful. Note the deepening of color and the red hind legs. And the aggressive change in attitude...all signs of a maturing male.

I just saw a really good pic of two adult ali’s, one male and one female, and it was very easy to tell the difference.

My ali looks just like yours..and I am pretty certain it’s a male.

Good idea to take her to your local herpetologist to know for sure. Ask your local vetrinarian for recommendations to one. A herpetologist is a vetrinarian especially for reptiles.

 Alligator lizard changed! Help!

I would think that the darkening of the skin would be a sign of shedding considering that the darker My ali’s skin get’s usually tells me how close he is to shedding, and the look of being bigger is probably him puffing up to look more dangerous. Alot of times, wild lizards will do that to ward off predators or atract mates.
Q- WHat is his name? And does he turn rainbow collors when he sheds?
You see, I have an aligator lizard that looks exactly like that, named Tiger, but I don’t know specifically what kind he is because I caught him.
Good luck, hope that helped,
Dragondreamer
