American Crocodiles.

I had recently heard that Amer. Crocs were taken off the endangered list, is this news true? If so does anyone have any idea of the estimated population in Florida?

Wait a minute I think there is a misunderstanding. The estimated American ALLIGATOR population in Florida is over 1,000,000
The American CROCODILE Population in Florida is about 1500-2000. They were bumped from endangeredto threatened because they have had an increasing number of nesting sites every year. A very good sign that the species is making a good comeback in the U.S.

Thanks for clearing that up! I thought that number seemed a bit high. It’s great to hear that the species is making a come back in the U.S. Any idea of populations throughout it’s range?

I’m not 100% sure cuz these stats were a bit broad and I think there a little old but Crocodilian.com is saying there’s an estimated 20,000-50,000 in the wild throughout its range.
