PLEASE HELP! BABY GATOR WILL NOT EAT 
If anyone has any advice i would greatly appreciate it. I have a 8 in. baby american gator and i’ve tried to feed it crickets and minnows and it won’t eat. What should I do?

They might have fed it before shipping it to you, mine would not eat for a few days cuz they fed him right before shipping, find out what the people were feeding him before you got him, they get used to one food item and its hard to break habits of eating certain things sometimes, you can try giving him mazuri crocodilian diet, or turtle pellets, if you use mazuri I would cut it up into smaller peices since your gator is so young, keep trying to feed him different things and (keep him warm) not to warm cuz they can over heat as well. If he uses the bathroom, you know.......check for worms, when mine had worms I gave him garlic oil with a dropper, it kills worms and is safer than using panicur, and a young gators are more fragil. I hope the people you got it from was not in a rush to sell it cuz they should monitor them closely for at least a month and make sure its eating before selling it. Mine was 11 inches when I got him but he looked like he was 6 inches from first glance, he was fresh out the egg. I hope he eats and does well. Dont forget to ask the people you got it from what kinda diet that had the gator on. Peace.......

Thanks for the help i found out he ate before i got him but he is doing great so i guess he just isn’t hungry... this is my first experience with a baby so if you could give me some advice on about how often i should feed it i would appreciate it... i saw one of my big ones eat a small deer the other day that was pretty awesome

Dont feed him to many gold fish cuz they can be hard on a gators digestive system, every now and then wont hurt, you can feed him every other day at first or every 2 days or one feast at the end of the week, I feed mine pellets and on my days off they get the big meals. Baby gators should probly eat more often than adults, I would feed him plenty of cricketts at first and get some mazuri and break it up for the gator, let him put on some weight, the first months are crucial to moniter the gator and keep it warm and feed it alot, some baby gators will can be hand fed and some will refuse the food if given by hand, You can take a minnow and pick up the gator and tap the gators jaws with the fish and maybe he will eat it. Another thing I used to do is a take a water bottle and squirt the gators jaws while he was in the water and that would stimulate him to eat. Peace.......

my father ownes a 3 footer at his bussenes and it woulnt eat for the first week becouse it has already been feed they dont need to be feed only like once a month becouse they have energy reserves

Baby gators are born with an energy reserve stored in thier tails but it doesnt mean just feed them once a month, that energy reserve is for emergancy, it gives them time to learn how catch cricketts and fish in the wild and if they are slow learners they can survive and they also must compete with the rest of the baby gators in the pod but feeding a gator once a month is not good, a human being can live 40 plus days without food but that doesn’t mean that you should feed your kids once every 40 days and even then they would be frail, skinny and unhealthy. Humans have fat reserve for emergancy energy but a healthy human should eat daily. And it is crucial for baby crocodilians to put on some weight in the first year. Now as they get older they eat more but less often but it is true, baby crocodilians spend the first year eating lots of small prey. Peace

the gators 2 years old and the web that i bought him off of said taht once there 2 feet long you should feed them 1 time a month and when my dad feeds him my dad gives him 15 pounds of food plus a live bat or two for him to cathch on his own and there gone within the first week of them being in there and i also have 6 bass 2 bullhead 1000 guppies for the fish and gator freshwater clams and a couple turtles im going to buy like 10 giant goldfish for the tank to so if hes hungry he will always have food i do inventory every week so i know how many fish are in there at all times and i only have 1 gator so dont tell me im being cruel to my dads gator so please back off

They have been the center of bad feed back before surrounding deals and shipping with international reptile suppliers and have been accused of ripping people off for expensive crocs but Ive never had any problems from them and nobody has had any problems over small orders, mazuri is 15 dollers for 5 pounds and it takes about a week to deliver, it has always came on time when I ordered and Ive never been ripped off by them but I have read accusations on other post boards and the guy came on there and defended himself cuz supposibly he ordered half male and half female adult dwarf caiman from South America to breed and the other guy sent mostly males so the guy at nature coast exotics refused to pay for all the males, basically an argument between two dealers.......
