Yes Boa, Ive got two pretty babies myself.....

you need to keep in mind that a Gator averages a foot a year.... so your looking at 2 feet before you even get a chance to put up the outdoor pond..... with purchasing you need to think the long run gators dont stay the same size of their environment they continue to grow... and considering that this year will be the biggest growth and change... you might find yourself purchasing another tank when its all said and done with. but thats MY opinion... IOm sure Bayou will get on here and post his comment I myself never kept my guys in a tank they hd their basement habitats..... again Bayou will be on to add his point ando thers will have theirs as well... you need to keep in mind the ratio of land to water should be where they will COMFORTABLY be capable to stretch out and bask and to COMPLELTY submerge and swim.... then take a look at your tank and ask yourself "In a few months will that be possible" BUT good luck with the Gator they make wonderful pets

I don’t care what size the Gator is a 55 gallon is to small. I don’t know if I read the statment correctly or not but I think it was said that you have it in a dry land evir. Please explain. even a baby at 9-10 inches should have an area twice their body length in water and at least the same amount of land. Another words if your gator is 12 inches long the water area should be at least 12x12 and the same amount of land. So a 55 gallon at 48"x12 1/4" will not provide enough space. I see you are building or (have plans to do so) a larger enclosure but you will not have a year to do so. You will see that from bumping the glass the Gator will begin tearing it’s mouth up and the upper jaw will begin to turn and twist. My advice is as follows get a larger area a.s.a.p. and get the Gator out of the Glass tank a.s.a.p. a kiddie pool will do for now just get one that is on clearance now that winter is getting a death hold on us.

They have to have roughly a room to start they need to be able to fully bask.... as well as fully submerge for their own comfort... to many stick them in smaller tanks and its uncomfortable for them (makes em crabby too) thats why most o us stress out to READ before buying and get the equipment before purchase
