Caiman And Alligators?? 
Can i put my caiman and my alligator in the same tank if they both have enough room...? I know their temperments are different so I honestly dont know if its ok?

ok.. why do you say no? I spoke to a zoo keeper the other day and he said as long as the tank is large enough and the caiman and alligator are the same size they will be fine.

caimans are very aggressive and might attack or fight with your gator or the other way around and the alligator will outgrow the caiman and could seriously hurt it. It would be a hassle during feeding too. just a bad idea overall.

That was funny mampam, yeah that right, the caiman will attack the gator and maybe puncture an eye or even kill the gator and the gator will out grow the caiman if it lives and get revenge. I have both and I dont keep the together. Peace

I boarded 3 large adult female American Alligators for two years. My Spectacled Caimans are pretty big (up to 6’ 6") but I was really concerned that these very large Alligators, with their huge heads would hurt or kill my caimans, especially the smaller females. I had it exactly backwards! The caimans are like Sherman tanks with their armored scales and large teeth. Even the small female caimans terrorized the huge gators. They took out huge gashes on the sides and even the jaws of the gators with ease! The gators ran away from the caimans as fast as they could! I separated them immediately!
A caiman that’s half the size of a gator will terrorize that gator!

True, every now and then I put mine together but only under my very close supervision just to give them a social life with another crocodilian, well this morning my caiman crept up on the gator in the water and tryed to take a lung at him and snap so I quickly grabbed the caiman up and took him out. I ussually would keep them at least on opposite sides while monitoring them at arms length but today I wanted to see what the caiman would do if given the chance and as sure as a caiman is a caiman he was a caiman today, enough said. Never leave them alone together which I never do anyway but if I did I would find a wounded or possibly dead gator....... And zoo keepers don’t know everything, I was at my local zoo and I said yall have a cool chinese alligator and they didn’t even know it was a chinese alligator, that though it was just a young gator, now at the Saint Augustine alligator farm they know thier stuff but at zoos they dont always get it right, look at what happened with that tiger in California.......

I have been reading forums on this site for a while now, I am building an outdoor enclosure and am interested in whether I should start with a Caiman or an Alligator , I understand they are a little different in habits , which do you think would be best to start off with .

With a good outdoor enclosure you can handle anything, gators have good temperment, caiman and crocodiles are aggressive but when any of them get bigger its not like your gonna be holding them, if your state has warm temperatures year round then you are good, if not I would build an indoor enclosure connecting to the outdoor enclosure with a fenced in walk way to both.
