This guy is in way over his head.

In addition to this poor gator he has a croc monitor, a blackthroat monitor, a burm, an anaconda, and he’s wanting a togian water. On top of that, he lives in New York, everything he has is ILLEGAL!!!!!

Just cuz he has a lot of big animals doesn’t mean he’s in over his head. Some people just know what they are doing with their reptiles and have the room and passion to take care of larger ones.

The problem is this.. society doesn’t see any GOOD news with the hobby of keeping reptiles but they DO see the BAD when people go against legislature and get caught.. it gives ammunition for the political aspect to step in, is another blow to our community and another link off our leash to shorten it. making reptiles illegal in other states.. it wont matter how good how great he takes care of his Herps, society will see him irresponsible and thus will see the rest as irresponsible... and as for an alligator Im against keeping them in takns it is a waste of money, but to each their own, Im not irritated he keeps large animals,Im irritated its done illegally.

If Memory serves at one point when reptiles were confiscated they were killed in NY maybe its changed... regardless if you want to keep do it legally.. BUT he may be like me and have his blue card for being N.A if thats the case the law of the whiteman doesn’t really affect us, I dont have to keep permits for my animals... even in an illegal area.. he may be the same

While I don’t agree he’s in over his head keeping large animals (he may have a vast amount of experience and, quite frankly, none of those animals are rocket science to keep), I do think he’s in over his head with the animals he’s keeping in NYS.
Regardless of whatever colored card he may have, it won’t protect someone who is violating the Lacey Act, which he is if he’s in NY. I don’t know about anywhere else, but just because someone is native american in NY, doesn’t mean they are above the white man’s laws. They may be exempt from paying taxes in certain areas and fish for free, but they are still fair game for pretty much everything else.
Any croc’s are considered an endangered species in NY and require an endangered species permit, and it’s not just a slap on the wrist if caught. You get hammered on both the state and federal level.

I know when I buy from a breeder, they ask for my permit, I copy my blue card and send and Im in the safe zone...Alligators are considered "potential food" and various snakes, I would have to look and thusly yes exempted from the law.. however I do know when I move to a state that it is illegal I have to notify city county and state... then Im set and in the clear....

It isnt just buy and be happy its I keep but I still have a process to notify that I am housing said species. my card is considered a permit.. and any breeder in any state that asks for a permit takes my card instead....

this is a rather irresponsible statement that was made.. First off IF.. big word.. but there is ALWAYS a possibility and when ONE idjit gets caught doing something illegal then BAM its another link off the chain of legal rights for the rest... Also.. you do realize by making that statement you CAN get caught yes? all it takes is them doing a search for your address and location of your pc...BRILLIANT.... another thing is by NOT thinking your actions out and how it will affect others, by being greedy and selfish in keeping an animal that can get you into serious trouble... First they will likely confiscate and euthenize...bravo, that means an animal gets put down for the selfish act of another, then of course they fine you.... but they go into legislate and come down harder on all the RESPONSIBLE keepers that work to maintain good standards with their herps and work to do it LEGALLY... anyone caught doing it illegal is just another burden and strike against the reptile community....

Yes it is irresponsible to keep the animals illegally. I feel that if he wants to keep the animals he should move somewhere they are allowed to be kept. What is he going to do with the gator after it outgrows the tank? That’s my first question? I live in Florida and it is legal here with a permit. Just because your NA shouldn’t give you a right to abuse the system. Potential food seriously. That’s horse dummy. I know have had to go out and spend over a grand to keep my burms and rock python and retic because like to turn them loose in the glades when they get to big. I rescue all my large snakes because the previous owners don’t know what they got into when they bought a cute little hatchling and then it grew up to be monstrous. The same thing applies to gators. The animal is out of its realm. NY are you kidding me. I have had gators in the past but never in a fish tank for God sakes. Usually I had to rehabilitate for release. Because some idiot didn’t realize what he was getting into when he bought cute little babies off the Internet and the cute little babies grew up and took 4 fingers. HELLO people! Its an Alligator! For Gods sake. It may not take a rocket scientist to keep them but it takes compassion and love and God damn it respect for the sheer power of these creatures because no matter how strong you think you are these animals will grow up to be a hell of a lot stronger than you and if you don’t know what you are doing it will kill you or at very least possible dismember you. Please use your head before getting any animals that can eat you whole when its full grown!
