 Important question

no that is a total myth, an Alligator will continue to grow regardless of its surroundings.

 Important question

yes i know for a fact it will, i have done experiments over the last 20 yrs with them. the growth rate on farm raised is at 18 months old, the should be 4 foot then skinned, in a aqu. at 18 months they are less than 20 in,

 Important question

Reptile your an idiot...a child that is kept in a crib does not stay the size of the crib a large constrictor kept in a tank does not stay the size of a tank

so if I put an infant child in a clothes drawer does that mean the child will stay 2 feet?? Uh... No they continue to grow regardless...even in a crib HENCE why you have to buy a larger bed or a larger environment..because if that was the case gators would stay small forever and everyone would have ’minis’ try using common sense

if a gators growth was somewhat stunted it wasnt because of the environment it was because of poor keeping poor feeding and idocy...

 Important question

you have no idea what you are talking about, go back to school, i have worked with gators for over 20yrs, studied zoology and herpetology, did lectures all over the country, you check any farm in the south, and the average gator skinned is 4 foot which is about 18 months old, how big it your 18 month old gator raised in an aqu? about 16-18 in if that, my 5 ft gator if 8 yrs old, all reptiles never stop growing just the growth rate slows as it gets bigger as in the Burmese python, a 1 yr old is about 6 feet, 2 yrs old about 10-12 feet, then it slows as it grows, if you need i can give you some farms in the south to check with too or contact the fish and wild life in that state for gator farms,

 Important question

Hey Reptileplus looks like your the one who hasnt done any research. the original question was if u keep a gator in a small cage will it stay small. the answer is no you even proved that yourself im assuming your 5ft. Alligator isnt in a 55 gal aquarium anymore. and as for 18 in. at 18 months old that is the normal natural growth rate of an Alligator, which is 1 ft. a year or about an inch a month.
Alligator farms power feed their gators and keep them in higher temps to accelerate their growth Fourfold. So your alligator is just normal growth rate totally not influenced by cage size.
