 Feeding and other general questions

Hey guys just found this site and I’m really digging it. I own a gator, got it from a friend who really loves reptiles but just didn’t like the gator, well I did so I got it for free! Go me haha, either way I’ve had he/she (not sure yet) for about 2 weeks and have been mainly feeding it mice with just a few goldfish as well. I just read that goldfish aren’t good at all, so stopping that now. What all can I feed it, it’s mainly on a mouse diet. Also how often should I feed it? One other question, is cohabitation an issue? My friend had it living with a common snapper so I just kept it in the cage with the gator. So far there have been absolutely no issues. The guy isn’t too big, probably about 1.5 ft long right now, so I’m guessing just under 2 years old. Also please don’t lecture me on how hard it is to raise these guys, I already did a good amount of research on the internet before I got the little fella so I understand the issues here it’s just hard to find good info on raising them when almost every site just calls you an idiot for even thinking about getting one.

 Feeding and other general questions

Hello, my gator is 2ft. now and i have had him/her (i was told he is a he) for 8 months now and i feed him primarily Mizuri croc chow. it is excellent! it has ALL the protein and vitamins he needs and believe me, he is really growing with this stuff. plus, you can just toss it in his water and he will love it! Gators love to eat things on the water that’s how they do it in the wild. trust me, this is great stuff. i recommend(and no I’m not a salesman) contacting nature coast exotics, they are crocodilian experts and good people to deal with and very reasonable on their prices. also, i do feed him an occasional piece of chicken for a snack. but primarily mizuri croc chow. p.s. hang in there with your gator, your not an idiot just be dedicated to your gator and always respect him and handle him frequently to keep him as tame as possible and handable. good luck!

I would try feeding him gut loaded crickets maybe put some live fish in his tank. don’t be overly concerned just give him time to get used to everything. get you some Mazuri croc chow he will love it! it has all the protein he will need. make sure his environment is correct, clean&warm water, ample lighting etc. and as far as taming down, handle him daily if possible and be gentle with him. remember, he will never be totally tame,no animal is,but with frequent handling a bond of trust can be developed. the main thing is that you want him hand able that’s the main thing.
