Yacare X Spectacled Caimen I’m considering acquiring 2 "yacarexspectacleds" from diamond reptiles. I’m sure a lot of you have heard of this guy. Give me some input. Are they really as tame as this guy is claiming? He’s running an ad on kingsnake that says they’re bred to be tame and that they only reach 4-6 feet. They’re big bucks, so I want to get the whole scoop before I drop 500 bucks on them. And allow me to introduce myself. I’m Pete, from Indiana. I’m new to the site but definitely not a novice. 22 now, I’ve been a herper since I can remember, but didn’t make it into a business until a couple years ago. I’ve done a lot research on crocodilians but this will be my first "croc purchase." So anyways, let me know what you think.Check out my site if you’d like. I designed it so don’t expect to log onto any fancy shmancy thousand dollar site. But hey, it gets the job done, right?

Yacare and specs DON’T have great temperments to begin with but it is a GOOD sales pitch, you have to give them props for that at least. I know if you get anything young enough and spend enough time with it you can train it to act calm but I will assure you when you get it you will not want to kiss it on the nose. LOL They are beautiful and I am considering getting a few myself but, they are caimen and will have a caimen attitude.Tony

Yacare X Spectacled Caimen He claims they are dog tame and will put his reputation on the line. He also told me that he doesnt handle them often, unless to clean their water.. Yet they never try to bite. He says even the adults, which arent held much are tame. I guess what somewhat gives this guy credibility in my eyes is the fact that he’s set up to be a guest speaker at the south carolina reptile expo. I know, your probably like, " and......" but its got to count for something, that someone thinks enough of him to ask him to get infront a large group of people and subject them to his opinion. What do you think Bayou?... And anyone else, of course. Thanks, Pete C9R

Yacare X Spectacled Caimen
A cold animal is a tame animal.lol Just be careful. He will put his rep on the line but I am sure he could give a rats a$$ what you think or say as he does alot of business with alot of people and really doesn’t need repeat business from you. I am familiar with the company and they are good people but a Caimen is a Caimen. Go into it with both eyes open instead of head first. Tony

Yacare X Spectacled Caimen Don’t wanna burst any bubbles, but a Yacare is different from a spec because of the region it’s from (the Yacare) and the holes in its upper jaw where the two bottom teeth come through. Other than that it is a caiman, as Bayou has stated, and as such, as a breed of animal, will never be "tame". There may be a few that have easier-going temperments than others, but on the whole, as a species, caiman are nasty critters. 250,000 years of never having to say they’re sorry makes for a whole lotta no-evolution-needed instinct to fall back on. When we got Angel we were told she was a four and a half foot female spec and she was tame. In truth, she had mouth rot, so she couldn’t snap. After five days of tooth cleaning and mouth aiding and antibiotics, she’s feeling better and back to being a caiman with all the nasty you gotta love her for!

Yacare X Spectacled Caimen In regards to Mitch, he’s been good with me. There was a photo of him holding about 25 baby King Cobras in his hand, saying they were tame as hell and wouldn’t bite. I got one from him and it was if it’s mouth was glued shut. It never bit, although I never free handled it the way he did, but I did handle it without a hook or anything.Bayou and Bam know what they’re talking about, so I won’t try to add my 2 cents on the animals. But Mitch is a good guy and I would do business with him again.

Yacare X Spectacled Caimen *sings* A Caimans a caiman of course of course and you cant kis a caiman of course of course unless that freakin caiman of course is the famous....*scratches head*Doesnt sound right hehAnyway..The last Caiman I had was a spec..and Zues was mean tempered and as Nasty as they came...and that was after I handled him on a daily basis...I had Zues since he was little I wont say all caiman are mean, but that is the general personality and suspicion...To each their own..some are more tolerant then others, they each have individual personalities. This said your taking a chance regardless on getting it..it could come out calm, or it could be mener...then Me..thats pretty damn mean I dont use "Tame" for my reptiles.. I know somewhere down the line Im liable and possible to get bit..but most of mine are Docile
