If you are meaning an alligator...Before I EVEN go into anything are you wanting one just because they are a crazy "pet" to have??? they arent just pets like a cat or dog...these guys can and will bite they are to be respected...your food bill shoots up...my guys eat better then I do..and eat often..and within the first year of growth if you dont feed them enough they stunt sooo therefore your feeding them more..and more often sometimes even several days..until they have their fill...So best bet is to ask yourself am I wanting one for the right reasons, are they legal, can I afford it, will I be able to House it when its bigger, what do they eat, how will they grow..... So many get them as babies they get bit or get bigger then they want to get rid of them...Yeah Yeah I know I preach and BTW Tegator hunni.... I have pictures of a few of my guys they are now up on my Webpage if you want I can send you the link heh

If you could send me the link, it would be great. Just for the record, I do not think you preach. I use my reptiles for education. I volunteer at schools just to see the reaction of the students when you pull out a 10’ snake or a Alligator. But most people want a reptile for the wrong reasons (because they look cool). What I tell all of the classes that see my reps and want to know how much they cost is "if you think you will never be bitten or do not want to get bite, never own a reptile because it only takes that one time when you look away or are not paying attention that it will happen" and yes it does hurt, sometimes for a long time.

I cant recall how many Guys have come through my care due to them "looking cool" and some idiot gets bit.... People do not think of the care ahead of time nor the time it takes.... the same with Alligators...unfortunately when they bite they do some serious damage.I Myself have been bitten on occasion My Fem Burmese Mafdet.... is a striker I Breed solely because most are not captive but wild caught..I supply those that have been born in captivity. Shes bitten on several occasion even in the pic on the webpage I was a bit nervous heh...she struck three times but i keep photos of their growth as well as each time they shed..They are currently shedding at this point in time...I have to update the page I moved my guys out of their habitat to do a little remodeling so currently they are in the Guest room, with a kiddie pool for swimming..I hope to have them in their habitat within a month again then more pictures will be taken.Yeah I know so Im kissing at the camera with Pandora but yanno.. shes not that bad a girl...found with her for her handling ill put her in the tub with a wash rag and just dribble water on her by wringing it out...she relaxes and I usually stroke her..shes getting a LOT better about being handled and a lot more responsive then when I first got her.Prometheus just grunts on occasion he huffs but doesnt try and haul arse when I pick him up...Got a wicked new filtration peice..it sits in the pool, causes a gentle wave affect...but is a sponge it sucks the water in the particles get stuck I clean it out replug the system after the sponge is clean and the large peices are brought to the center of the pool has made cleaning a LOT easier... the webpage link is below feel free to visit it at any time..It needs to be updated of course and pages added but all in good time when I have the time for now it gives you an Idea of my guys (And Gals) http://hometown.aol.com/celtictigeress/index.htmlMy Babies!!!!!! its a rather interesting family if only people could see the truth and serenity about reptiles...but of course that will in time come at least I hope will eventually have better pics I hope |

I hope that your out look on the situation doesn’t get you or worse the animal you end up with hurt or worse. IT HAPPENS. I have owned croc. species for over 20 years and have been bitten at least once a year. It only takes a second of distraction and BAM you got it. I will tell you from experience that it hurts like hell I have gotten it from hatchlings upto and including my big guy in the pic. I tryed to get him to sit still during a show and he left me know he had his own plans by sinking his teeth into my knee cap. It was all caught on video(we tape every show). I think everyone will agree that owns a croc. species (or other herp) that there is NO SUCH THING AS A TAME REPTILE they are all wild animals(I know I am going to get some stuff for that comment but all I mean is this): Tame in most minds means trustworthy/will not bite/you can do what you want to it without worry. My opinion is they are WILD animals TRAINED to ACT tame. Ok before everyone thinks I am on the side of the NOBODY SHOULD OWN REPTILES people I think they suck, I am only saying if a tame snake smelled mouse/rat etc. on a hand it would not strike. But as in most cases the animal does what comes natural and trys to feed. With a croc species this feeding response is no joke. So my advice is that til you are mature enough that you are out of the "I want one because they are cool/crazy" think because the life you will ruin will be the animals and maybe your own. I unfortunately became disabled over the last year and can no longer care for mine properly so they have been offered up for sale. Against every ounce of my being I can not imagine a life without crocs.MORE PICS

I was just wondering if the tiny tank in the pic with one of your gators was its home I keep mine in enclosers(a 14x14 room) for the young ones with a 300 gallon pond 24 hour full spec. lighting and 2, 250 watt. heat bulbs (not the ceramic but the incadesent). I am not jumping to any conclusions just asking a question. I post on like 10 other forums and you often see people who don’t properly house their critters telling others how they should house theirs. Oh my young ones are kept outside during the spring summer and fall in a 100 foot x 20 foot enclosure with 2 ponds both of which are over 190 gallons that I have dug myself. Live vegitation etc. I was just wondering not trying to offend anyone here but the tank in your pic had water in it and seeing the animals you have pictured and the others you described you have no others at this time that would require a wet tank?? You said you were getting red ears but at the time you built the page you did not have them.

Just make sure of the laws in the area you move to. FL is illegal to own them without a permit, it is punishable by fines and prison. Again fly straight in the herp comunity we don’t need waves. If we are not helping then we are part of the problem there is no in between.

He means if your not part of the solution your part of the problem..reptile owners and handlers like us that know what we are doing get a bad rep and get banned...because people "think its cool" I have to keep papers updated permits here...and things checked out..again it goes with my female Pandora who was gotten "Because it was cool" and shes stunted in growth....Of course she wasnt handled fed or the like is a problem beast going through Rehab and all because it was cool...Do us all a favor Dear and this may sound rude.... but..dont bother you need to Mature to the point where you have it for the joy and can respect it...remember that "cool" beast can remove flesh and bone and it takes one stupid error on your part... I get bit by ALL of my guys from snakes to Gators..the only exception is my B&W Tegu the purpose of my Guys is instructional to teach to help assist to throw away the myths I dont want to have to give my guys away because some run of the mill Moron decided to give us people a bad name by doing something stupid and causing issues...I have enough problems keeping my guys as is (Except with the cops heh they come for the feedings....) but the Nature and wildlife have COWS Yeah I know Im a lil rude but we have waves right here in IL right now due to some teens that purchased...ugh
