 Pond help

Celtic can appreciate this... I live in god foresaken Michigan and have to deal with the cold, especially real cold nights in the summer. I’m creating an outdoor "pond" for the gator(s). Besides fumbling through the construction, I need a good heater. Does anyone have a good lead on where I can get a pond heater to keep the temps at around 80? Thanks.....

If you are putting an outdoor pond I assume you are enclosing it? If you enclose it from the roof hang a couple 250 wt. heat lamps and use electric base board heaters keep them about 2 feet off the ground. As far as keeping the water warm the best thing to do is get a canister filter and place 2 300 wt. aquarium heaters inside the filter and that will filter and heat the water at the same time. I am in PA our winters are not as harsh but I know what you go through.

Thanks BB... You don’t leave your guys out all winter, do you? Right now, the gator is only about 2 feet long, so I’m keeping her in a 250 aquarium: 2’x2’x8’. She’s on my deck out back, with a basking rock, real plants in the water and an aquarium water heater. I want to keep the temps at 80-85, and the aquarium thing doesn’t cut it. I had thought about using a pool filter and then heating it at that point, but wasn’t sure if there was a better proven method or not. In the winter, I’m building an inside vivarium in my basement, with a pond and vegetation. He’ll have to share the space, with a divider, with my Nile.
