you should only take eggs or tadpoles out of the wild......as they grow up they will only know living in a tank! A adult frog will get very stressed out.....it’s just mean! If he was drownding then why didn’t you just set him to the side of the water? If it was that cold out he wouldn’t have been out right.~~Lisa

How so? How can you say that its not unfair to the animal to go from a place that it knows then put it in a small (smaller than the wild) glass enclosure?

It really pisses me off when i see someone who doesnt give 2 sh!ts for the environment. Dont be greedy and take an animal from the wild for no apparent reason except for your personal satisfaction.

I would say the only reason to take an animal out of the wild is if it is hurt. But you should never keep it, just get it back to a healthy state and let it go again in the same area you found it in. Also never handle it unless it is absolutely necessary because it will loose its fear of humans which can cause it to die.

My Gosh, this reply is to everyone who was acting like it is the end of the earth to take a toad from the wild. Taking an animal and putting it in a safe, clean, predator free, easy food supply home is NOT the end of the world. And contrary to alot of the hullabaloo thrown around by people on this forum most that I have known do better than the store bought ones.
How is it better to stress the heck out of an animal sending it from the breeder to the petshop then being in a small glass tank that is banged on by every stinky kid that comes passed, then boxed up and taken to yet another place to live by the final owner..... Or even bred and then shipped in a box to the new owner.......How is all that better than taking it from the wild, giving to a good home in an area where the climate is similar to what it is used to???? It is NOT...Give people a break. Everyone has an opinion and so long as the animal is given a good home, cared for and loved then I think most adapt VERY VERY well

Personnaly speaking, there are so many American Toads out there, keeping 1 for a pet is really not going to kill the enviroment,in fact American Toads are hardy, great in a captive care sictuation, they dont strees like other toads and breed like roaches and eat like pigs.I say go for it,if this is what you choose for a pet.Myself,i have caught and breed this species of toad on many a nights, and have never really had any bad problems at all.Just make sure you do your research on the captive care of this toad and you should be just fine..Good Luck.

You guys that are saying it is not cruel obviously don’t know much about animals that live in the wild. They will die because they are not meant to be in a cage or else none of them would even be outside at all. If you want a frog so ad then buy one at a pet store instead of being cruel to the animals. AND I don’t think you know that it’s ILLEGALto take animals out of the wild. Everyone who has tried saying the same thing is obviously responsible and cares. And that toad is not okay. He should be bigger and should NOTbe in a cage! And I’m sure that if you were that toad Kyoss then you wouldn’t want to be caught and stuck in a cage until you die!

Ok Well in your case I guess it is ok because you have hd him for years and have fed him. As long as he’s not stressed I guess he’s ok. I still think it is cruel but at least he’s ok.

Its illegal to take animals out of the wild in Ohio unless you get the animal PIT tagged...not sure what state your all in but im just saying...and taking an american toad out of the wild isnt the end of the world...its not the best thing to do...but its better than paying for one at a store as they sell them to make money so they can take more from the wild...
