 My Conda & His Cage

His name is Jay and I’ve only had him for about 2 and a half months... We decided to go ahead and build him a nice big cage so that I didn’t have to keep upgrading... It’s 9.5 x 2.5 x 4... Let me know what u think...

HUGE tank for baby conda. GL w/ humidity on that bad boy hehe!

 My Conda & His Cage

Hello

nice cage but way too big for a small anaconda ... i would be surprised if the snake doesnt stress out in that monster cage....

the rule of thumb is the cage should be half the snakes length.....
my biggest adult female is a whopping 12 foot long snake and i keep her in a 6’ * 2’ * 18" cage and she is happy
my biggest male is 6 foot long and he is still in his 3 foot long cage and is very happy

again the cage looks nice but from a keepers point it looks too big for the snakes best interest

thanks

Very nice cage, and snake. I don’t think that is to big, but since it is a baby you should add some more greenery, lot’s more hides and some thick branches so he can make good use of all that hight.

Yes, but that is the bare minimal for the snake. As keepers we should try and give are snakes the biggest that we can, and Hardhittaz00 did that well.

How do you know your snakes is happy? Don’t you think he would like a cage like HardHittaz00?

bearded

i think you might have a valid point there on giving your snake a cage as big as possible.....but the snake still can stress out but like you mentioned about adding more decoration then the snake has more hiding places so u might be right there as well...but on the other hand if i offered each of my snakes a cage that big i would have to live in a 4 story house..lol

and i think my snakes are happy because they all feed very well , they all shed very well , all of my temps are right on the money , the humidity is almost perfect but as far as knowing if they are happy i guess i will really never really know....

thanks for the interest and i would love to see pics of your 6 footer my biggest male is right at 6 foot and i m looking for a bit larger one

and hardhittaz00 it is a nice cage i m a bit jealous but i just dont have the room and i have way too many yellow anacondas at the moment to even think about a cage like that...good luck with your new anaconda

thanks all

Sorry the quotes got messed up on that. I was actaully quoting you, because I don’t own an anaconda.

Oh and I hope I didn’t sound like jackass. and If I did I’m sorry.

Oh and I hope I didn’t sound like a jackass. I just like to give my animals big cages. My turtles are in a 8’X 3’ X 2’ stock tank, my garter snakes will be getting a 5’X2’X2’, And my JCP will be getting a 6’X3’X4’.

i dont ever think snakes can be kept in a "to big" cage since what about the 1 that live in the wild?they are the happiest of all i think and the wild is the biggest cage there is =p

Ever seen a person with a mansion the size of a small country stress out over having too much space?

Snakes may live in the wild, but this does not mean that they don’t like having a small familiar area to call home. One thing to consider is handling. When you have your snake out, let it explore and effectively the room becomes it cage with his actually cage merely playing the roll of smaller house within the grounds of your room.

In terms of size of tank... Its the difference between 1 person on a 1000 acre mansion (house + grounds) or 1 person in a 6 x 6 cell with no yard. Neither makes a person feel at home the best and are thus not the typical settings for the norm.

And please, I KNOW this is a simple metaphor. I’m sure it can be picked apart line by line if one truly felt the analogy was THAT erroneous.

In short- Too big and too small are always worth avoiding. The middle ground wins the day!
