 Samllest?

hello

the smallest anaconda is the bolivian anaconda (Eunectes Beniensis) and on average it gets around 4 foot long but could get longer possibly........i will include a pic that i have obtained from the net...

i know it looks a lot like the giant green anaconda and as far as its size goes i would love to own a pair of them . i have looked for years and have not ran across of one in the us...i remember reading a posting on the net of a female green anaconda eating large rats weekly and was not getting any bigger and was around 4 foot long and 3 years old , i tried contacting the person and never received a reply so who knows..........

now as far as the most common (smaller anaconda) is the yellow anaconda . it can easily be obtained and makes a great pet if obtained my a captive breeder (or get lucky with a import)..

here is a couple pics of mine

hope this helps you out

thanks

You are not going to find an E. beninesis

Also, they are almost identical in size to yellows, if not larger. Dirksen (taxonomist founder/describer) has them recorded at 4 meters. But this species was only found in 2002, and there are very few records. He even lists the size as a cautious estimate of 4 meters, as they can likely get bigger.

He lists yellows as not more than 4 meters long. (note: this is from records from a taxonomist studying wild anacondas. I think a captive record is actually close to 5 meters)

Either way, it is probably safe to presume yellow anacondas are your smallest species. Especially males.

thanks sola

i m terribly sorry i meant 4 meters ... however i would still love to own a pair of them as my yellows are very easy to care for at 6 to 12 feet long...

i have been reading everything that i can find about the (beni anaconda) and its just really hard as most of my findings are in german . i have obtained many pics from the net but little info...
which i gave up a long time on owning one..hehe i will just stick to the yellows

thanks

here is Lutz Dirsen’s translated page

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.anakondas.de/cms/front_content.php%3Fidcat%3D15&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=7&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DDirksen%2Beunectes%2Bbeniensis%26hl%3Den

Also, Dr. Dirksen is a very nice guy and he speaks clear English. I am sure he will answer e-mails for you in regard to scientific information. You might just have to wait a while for him to answer it because he does a lot of traveling.
