As hard as I know it may be I would suggest limited handling but make sure to make the most of the time when you do take her out. Of course don’t let her get too stressed either.

Best wishes for both you and her, and I hope that the problem does not present itself for a long time to come.

"this has happened to me before i know its hard but bring her back in a month and ill check on her for free" and all that was after i couldnt find the place and was like an hour late they even stayed open after closing time cos i kept callin tryin to find it lol... rough day...

Med to inject into the rat? Hmm, when you have a chance please let me know what it says on the bottle, I’d be interested to know what it is so I can learn some more about it. Usually injections are direct, not through a medium like food (rats in this case).

I’m very glad you found a vet with some compassion. Too many vets are heartless to snakes that they perceive as lacking the emotions or feelings of a dog/cat. And while it is true that a snake cannot express pleasure like those two do, they hurt and feel just as much.

I would limit handling to every other day for 30 min or so. Some people regularly handle their snakes less, but since this is a conda you want to make sure she doesnt regresss back to any nippy tendencies.

Again, best of luck to both of you.

Hmm, I would never think to question an experienced herp vet, but I wonder what dog/cat meds do?

If by any chance you could ask him and relay it here that would be great! I ask not b/c I doubt your vet at all, but because if its ever needed for a snake of mine I would like to know what it does, how it works, what its for.

As always, best of luck.

 TERRIBLE NEWS

I don’t have any idea about the fatty acid supplements for a snake but I am a physician and my buddy is a vet specializing in reptiles and small animals, he’s in Colorado ken shirella, and when i was having some issues with my green tree pythons he indicated that a lot of the antibiotics are very well tolerated and absorbed orally. I was surprised but he recommended that i treat my animals PO for URI’s and some issues of mouth rot and happy to say they got well. again i have no idea about the fatty acid dietary supplements. this is just an FYI for GNP regarding oral absorption of antibiotics and reptiles.

 TERRIBLE NEWS

Thanks Crow!

Aye, the mediums of treatment that I’ve used are topical, oral, and injection. All have various times when they are the best way to go, but on a personal note I try to hold out as long as possible before going the injection route. Its just too stressful on my snakes even when I have the vet do it, so oral is my primary choice when any of my babies catch a cold!

Thanks again for the info.
