1) Looks clean, and when they arent its a cake walk to notice it! For people worried about aesthetics, I must say the all white bottom of the tank is not an ugly look, and does not have the more patchwork look that newspaper can give off 2) EASY to clean. Pull em out, wipe down with cleaner and put in the new stuff. Takes 2 - 7 min depending on size of the tank and if you have to clean the hide/water bowl. Its also very very easy to see when its been messed! 3) Safe for eating on. One of my contentions with bark/dirt is that ingestion (mostly with bark) is always a concern. A thawed rat can have a surprising amount of junk stick to it when its laying on the ground 4) Less inviting for mites. Mites love laying their eggs in small nooks and crannies within the tank and wood chips are no exception. Not to mention spotting a dark mite on white paper towels if you do get them is a breeze!
