 Green anaconda housing

whats the best thing to use for the bottom of a tank holding a green anaconda? would a astro turf like material be good? its made for snakes and stuff, im just not sure which kind. or is using newspaper better? i know that using things like reptile bark and stuff like that is bad becasue it can have more problems with mites. so im trying to figure out what the best possible thing would be to use.

i like to use "Eco earth", and it helps keep a high humidity as well, you can find it at most reptile stores or pet co for sure. good luck.

I’ve always been a strong proponent of paper towels, hands down.

1) Looks clean, and when they arent its a cake walk to notice it! For people worried about aesthetics, I must say the all white bottom of the tank is not an ugly look, and does not have the more patchwork look that newspaper can give off

2) EASY to clean. Pull em out, wipe down with cleaner and put in the new stuff. Takes 2 - 7 min depending on size of the tank and if you have to clean the hide/water bowl. Its also very very easy to see when its been messed!

3) Safe for eating on. One of my contentions with bark/dirt is that ingestion (mostly with bark) is always a concern. A thawed rat can have a surprising amount of junk stick to it when its laying on the ground

4) Less inviting for mites. Mites love laying their eggs in small nooks and crannies within the tank and wood chips are no exception. Not to mention spotting a dark mite on white paper towels if you do get them is a breeze!

Just my 2 cents.

i personally use out door carpet which is the same as the reptile carpet you get in the store. just a hell of a lot cheaper 47 cent a sq ft. and i just get enough to make 3 to 4 pre cut out bottoms for my tank and when my snakes soil them i just take it out and put a new one in then when you get a chance take a hose and wash it off with a little bit of diluted soap water and then rinse it with the hose real good and hang it to dry and you can get years out of the bottoms. ive had the carpet thats in there cage now for over a year. it def cuts down on spending money on bedding.and it looks real good in the cage.
