I know it can be quite a hastle, but I still strongly urge all buyers to purchase snakes that they have seen/handled in person IF the snake is not for breeding purposes. Call the breeder, find out what shows they go to, where their facility is, and make an event of it! Heck you might even find at a show that there was another snake entirely that you liked more! ~GNP |

*Disection time* "know what you are buying" "a lot of babies from gravid wild caughts, and babies being passed as captive borns true they were born in captivaty but there not true captive borns" > A lot of baby anacondas are from gavid wild caughts, and the babies are being sold as captive borns. There is no "passed off as" or "not true captive borns" here. These truly ARE captive born. There are WC (wild caught), CB (captive born) and CBB (Captive Born, Bred) and all mean different things. THAT is the distinction that you need to know about. A CB snake is technically a captive born, it is simply not captive BRED. "these little guys have alot of problems" > Captive born snakes are raised the same as captive bred snakes, the only difference would be in pattern genetics and potentially in size. Temperment is not a genetic trait that is bred for, and parasites like any snake, regardless of its genes for pattern mutation. "be smart ask to see animal feeding dont take there word on it" > I don’t know any breeders who will show a feeding at a show. This would require you to visit their breeding facility (always a good idea in my book). Moreover, if you DO see your snake feed, this means you CANNOT expect to transport it home that day. Therefore this would only apply if the breeder is ok with holding onto the snake for at least a 36-48 hour time frame after the feeding before you came back to take the little guy/girl home. "and if from wild caughts parasites can and probly will be an issue you will be dealing with" > Indeed, a WC snake is considerably more at risk for parasites than A BCC snake. However, most importers or breeders who have CB babies check them out and clear them of parasites before selling them. For a breeder it would be a disaster for ANY snake they own to get a parasite and not get treated, because it has the potential to spred to their other snakes. Even if the babies are CB, the chances of a breeder accepting a snake with parasites and even letting it live in the same facility as his healthy snakes is minimal. **This does NOT mean that any snake you buy should not have a fecal smear test done just to be 100% sure** "dont be shy ask questons a lot of them and remember when you get one they grow very fast can be 7+ feet in less than a year good luck" > 7+ feet in a year would be a stunner for any male conda, and even for a female yellow. Green females have the potential, but it is also strongly based on the feeding regiment that you give your snake! And yes, the more questions you ask, the more info you will have to make a smarter and more financially sound decision. ~GNP |
