My anoles are in a good habitat set up. They keep laying eggs but they do not get fertilized. Any ideas for getting these eggs to hatch? I have at least one male and several females.

first off the way you worded that makes it seem as if you have more than one male, if you do then seperate them immedeiately. Also, what conditions are you keeping the eggs after you remove them. They may be fertilized and you just may be not keeping them in the right conditions

my anoles are in a ten gallon tank. I think i have only one large male because the rest (5) are smaller and I haven’t spotted any others with dewlaps. By the time I see the eggs they are already starting to shrivel up.
I have three types of lighting heat and uva uvb etc.. Also vines hiding rock and substrate. I fed them small crickets dipped in calcium, fruit flies and wax worms. I also a very weak anole that won’t eat. I separated him and he is hanging on but so weak he does drink when I mist him. He is on my hand right now and won’t let go. any ideas for this sick one as well. thanks

you have six anoles in a ten gallon. You need at least a 60 gallon tank to support that. !0 gallons per anole. Also, looking for dewlaps isnt the best method of sexing anoles. You need to look for 2 postanal scales. Read the ANOLE MATING RITUALS post for information on how to take care of eggs. Also, anoles dont necessarily need a heat lamp

Unless you can find a way to provide a basking area with a temperature of 90 degrees, you are going to need some sort of heat source!

I have a basking infared lamp. One person said they don’t need a heat lamp and one is saying the opposite.
Which is it? How warm should the tank be? What do postanal scales look like? I am planning to get a bigger tank. These anoles were given to me by the dept of education in NYC for a fourth grade curriculum if you can believe it! So I am doing the best I can!!

you do need a heat lamp...it just doesnt necessarily need to be infrared. Postanal scales look somewhat like this. I coulnt find an image of one for aNOLES THOugh.

Overall i think that you should just read Atrax’s anole care sheet that will provide you with loads of information. Ill bump it for you

i think that every anole is different from another in eating habits and it may even vary on a daily basis. i dont have a set feeding schedule for my current anoles. ASk Atrax if you want a precise answer(if one exists) let them eat as much as they will in a short period of time i suppose
