 My eggs are not hatching

I have 6 anole eggs. She started laying on nov 27th and every 12 to 14 days after . The last on jan. 20th. They are now in a separate cage but started out in with parents until Jan 8th. How long do I wait before I give up hope. They dont seem moldy or anything They are all different sizes. Is it normal for some not to hatch or am I doing something wrong. I have tried to follow direction but so far they are in soil. I cant seem to find any place that sells vermiculite. At least 2 should have hatched by now I’m thinking.

Any store with a gardening center should have Vermiculite. The eggs might be infertile - not every mating is successful. If you didn’t actually see them mating, make sure you have a male/female pair.

They mate often. I may just order the vermiculite on line. Do the eggs start out small like a tic tac and grow to a certain size?

Yes. Basically, they stay about the same size but just "round out" and look like a miniature chicken’s egg.

I wondered about that. I hope they are not just absorbing water only to be a putrid mess! I’m trying not to mess with the eggs too much , but I’m not that patient . The big 1 has been there over 60 days but it rolled . I put a mark on it and the mark wiped off on my hand so I really didn’t Know which side was up . I m so mad at myself.

 My eggs are not hatching

One of my anoles laid an egg two weeks ago. I had to buy a huge bag of Vermiculite at Lowe’s just to fill a little plastic cup, but it was only about three dollars. I read that they hatch in 30 to 40 days. Seems like a long time for such a tiny creature, but that’s what it says in my reference book.

How wet are you supposed to keep it and how warm? I put the egg right under the surface, moistened it slightly and put the top back on with holes cut in the top. I put it back in the vivarium with the others where it’s warm and moist.

Any suggestions from successful breeders?

Thats the right thing to do. It may take longer then the 40 days. One of my eggs finally hatched 24 hrs after I did that and it was about 70 days old!
