 Questions about Mating & Eggs

First of all, I would like to ask if it is possible to mate green anoles in a 10-gallon tank. Second, a while ago i had a male and female green anole. I separated the male anole to another tank. What I didn’t know was that they had mated and the female was laying like an egg a week or something. It was mating month so I don’t know how many eggs she should lay a week or how many eggs she should lay a month during mating season. Also, her first egg she laid was infertile. I can tell because it was yellow and it looked like the other infertile eggs other members put up in the forums. What I would like to know is how long can a female store sperm and produce fertile eggs before they sperm "expire".

P.S. I would also like to know if it is a good or bad idea to grow grass in the habitat without using "bad" fertilizer since it would help with the humidity I would think... If not then ok.

 Questions about Mating & Eggs

It is possible to mate Anoles in a small enclosure. The minimum size, however, should be 20 gallons for a pair (10 gallons per Anole).

After a successful mating, the female will lay one (or rarely two eggs) at roughly two-week intervals until a total of 10-12 have been produced. There might be a several day seperation between eggs if two are produced.

A female Green Anole can store sperm for 7 months but once released, the process can’t be stopped and all of the stored sperm will be used for a clutch of eggs.

Growing grass as a substrate is not a good idea. It is difficult to maintain and will prevent the Anole from laying eggs in the substrate. NEVER import sod from outside since it contains all sorts of "nasties". It is also difficult to grow under artificial light. Other live plants will raise the humidity.

So, Other plants are okay to place in the enclosure. Can you tell me which plants are good to have in the enclosure and which ones are bad? Thank you for the information. I Really appreciate it.

Got to the "Anoles" forum and check the care sheet I wrote there. It contains a short list of live plant suggestions.
