 A BAYBE!(maybe)

Same story here, I have had a small Green Anole for about 10 months or so now, she was about 2.5" when I got her, now about 4 inches. I caught another large obviously male anole and introduced him into the tank about a month ago. The female stayed brown and not much interaction for the first couple of weeks, then they kinda would hang out in the same plant.... about a week ago the female started showing what looked like aggressive behavior, but it might have been mating, head bobbing etc, the male would respond by running up to the highest point in the tank and beautifully display his dewlap. I didn’t want to take the chance that the male would hurt my female so I turned him loose a few days later. Last weekend the female laid an egg, but I have no way of knowing if is fertile or a dud.

Back to your question, my small lizard, now known as a female, when by her self and green in color has a nice pastel white stripe down her back, and would occasionally lay soft eggs even with no male, perhaps that will help you determine if your small one is female. The male I caught was obviously a male, I picked him up and he displayed a HUGE red dewlap and bit me. He also had those rises up and in behind the eyes. BIG lizard!

Good luck, and if any one knows a way to detect if an egg is or is not fertile please let me know!

you might have two males. I have a smaller female and when I added the male they were always green. You might be seeing signs of stress due to competition.. the females have a shorter snout, and a grey speckeled line on their back. they sometimes may display a dewlap, not common though.. the males have wider, bigger heads and have more of a "bull" look to em, they are meatier, usually lose the grey line on the back after adolecence and in the precense of a female will try to show off their dewlap as often as possible....

mating season is almost over, so now all we need to do is keep em all healthy and warm through the winter...

You should never house two males together. They will fight to death. Are you sure they aren’t both males? Check if they are always brown.
