hey hey calm down. i am not a mean person don’t get me wrong. you can put a pair of anoles in a 1 gallon for all i care. i was just saying that an anole will need food every hour if you keep it camped like that and it will die even sooner. i am a 2-3 year of experience with anoles and if you wont to argue with me go ahead i just know I’m right.

I’m not made or anything, i don’t won to get into a fight but you can even ask atrax which Had probably 20 years of experience and she will say it is messed up to keep one anole in a 3 gallon tank.

atrax is such an inspiration to caring for anoles. im not mad

The correct # is to have 1 anole per 10 gallons. That means 20gal=2 anoles 30gal=3 anoles and so on. Never mix two males, no exceptions. They will fight and one will kill the other most likely.

If you want to have healthy and happy anoles,you WILL have 10 gallons per anole! That means if you have 2 anoles you MUST have a 20 gallon tank and so on! The more space in the tank the happier the anole!

tomboy is correct, It has been scientifically proven small species of anole need 10 gallons to exhibit natural behavior. just because a green anole is green doesnt mean it is happy and healthy. and about fitting 4 in a 20 gal, even babies need 10 gallons each. you could fit in a jail cell with 3 other people but you would be exactly stress free would you? i have had anoles for 20 years and atrax over 40, we must be so stupid after all these years, you guys are so right, we definitely could keep 4 in a 20, wow, thank you sooooo much. every one who says they can keep an anole healthy in a tank with less than 10 gallons per anole is horribly wrong.

I had my 3 green anoles in a 16 gallon at the beginning, and even though they are in a 30-gallon now, they LOVED their 16 gallon tank!! I think they are still trying to get used to the 30 gallon...most of the time I see them brown and hiding in the leaves. I think they are not used to the size difference. I also added one more female, so I have 4 in the 30 gallon. They all seem to be getting adjusted and are happy and fine now, except for maybe the females, as Buster is after every one like no tomorrow, lol!!!

wow this seems like a touchy subject but I’m gonna say my bit anyway.

I have a 18"cubed enclosure i think its just over 20 UK gallons and i have 1 male and 3 females in it (temporarily). Please read my explanation on "everyone`s tanks" for the reason why i have this many anoles in there. I had 2 previously and they appear to be much more stressed since the other 2 have been added. I believe that 4 can live in a 20gallon enclosure but as pet owners we must try to create the best environment for our pets. I believe that my anoles will be much happier when i get them in a bigger tank. I believe scientists through experimentation have decided that 1 anole should be kept in a 10Gallon enclosure to ensure natural behavior. it is also known that anoles tend to be non social-animals (except when breeding). Therefore i believe that each anole should have the opportunity to bask, hide and hunt away from other anoles. If you can find a way to achieve this in a 20gallon enclosure with 4 anoles please let me know.

On the whole i feel that 10gallons per anole is the appropriate size. Oh also i wouldn’t put 2 males in any enclosure regardless of size.

OK i have said my bit. This is just my opinion and if anyone disagrees please say

well, i actually disagree with the ten gallons per anole rule, originally i kinda spoiled my lizards by keeping a male and a female in a 65 gallon reptarium where they laid two eggs(only one survived however). however the cage eventually broke and i used a spare 20 gallon cage i had. eventually i had to move to another state and i left my anoles with a close friend who knew quite a lot about reptiles. When i arrived in massachusetts, i eventually bought a male and two females and they are currently in the 20 gallon and doing great.i do believe that a pair can be successful in a 10 gallon, 4 in a 20 gallon, and then 10 gallons per anole after that

please dont call anoles by generic names such as bahamans and cubans; it is quite inaccurate seeing that many species of anoles fit the names, cubans could mean knight anoles, cuban blue anoles, or many other species that live in the area, call them by a more specific name please like anolis sagrei or cuban brown anole instead of bahaman anole

I have 3 in a 12-16 gal screened enclosure and they are doing great.They have even laid eggs(this past Wednesday) and are all healthy, happy, and fat with crix. :)
