Help, I seem to Have a Lumpy Lizzard!

Hi, My daughter has a green anole. It is about 2 yrs old. His color seems fine. He eats well. Lately I have noticed behind both sides of his head; he has 2 swollen nodule-like things. They are located behind his vents. I do not recall him having these before. Could someone please explain what this could be and should I find a reptile Vet? Thanks

Unfortunately I do not have a digital camera. It is 2 swollen lumps on the back of his neck just where his head ends.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to chalk it up as old age. He does not seem to be ill in any way. I called a reptile store and asked as well. I cannot seem to get a hold of the one reptile vet around here. Much appreciated, Trejur.

NO NO NO!
this is very serious! YOU HAVE TO GET HIM TO A VET.
IT IS an abcess. From what I know it is an infection of the ear.
Very serious condition---a vet will have to slice and empty the out. Anoles die from this!! Do not hesitate! Get him to a vet
And DO NOT try to fix it yourself--many infections will occur if not done properly.

Time is essential
Sincerely yours
NikkE

You are right about going to a vet and getting them drained but it is not an infection of the ear no one is quite sure of the cause yet but they have some ideas. Check this place ou and look under illness/injury http://www.kingsnake.com/anolecare.

My old iguana had one of those on his cheek...$1,000 later it was gone. But it was worth it!

Heh.
Tejur, most likely the reason you could get a hold of a vet to help with your reptile, was because there wasn’t one.
But pay no heed to that comment if your store is not a PETCO or PETSMART, those stores barley even have reptile specialists.
Our PETCO’s reptile specialist owns a Crested gecko.
That’s it.
Yet the store sells Water Dragons, Anoles, Russian Tortoises, Chameleons, House geckos, Tokay geckos, Fire-belly toads, Pacman frogs, Tarantuals, Emporer Scorpions, Leopard geckos by the dozens, Ball Pythons, Banded Kingsnakes and Sonoran Desert Kingsnakes, Red-Tail Boas, and anything else they can get for almost nothing and sell for almost everything.

theres not much a vet can do for abcess on anoles, i had a similar experiance with one of my old females magda, and my vet squeesed them. he told me that if the shock wouldn’t kill it the anole would be fine. 2 days later magda unfortunately died. because they are so small anoles get easily scared and too much strees kills them. this is why i handle mine as little as possible.
