Cubin Anoles ? We have Anoles we were told they are Cubin Anoles, They are light brown with gold and black, the males have ridges and are a lot bigger. The females don’t have ridges. We got them in CoCoa Beach, Fl turned them lose in our yard. We had 12 turned them lose two years ago we have thousand’s now. We also have Green Anoles and a few Tokay’s they all seem to get along. If anyone else has some I would like to see a picture. They had babies in March and are having them now. They seem to do good threw the winter. They hide when it’s in the 60’s come out in spring. They don’t seem to be afraid of us, love the water they come out in droves when I water the plants. We leave the bugs alone on the plaint’s so they have lot’s of bugs, we have lot’s of man made hiding places for them also.I have fountain’s and bird bath’s that they love.

Cubin Anoles ? holy crap, no offense, but do you know what you did? where do you live? and are all the lizards you mentioned living outside at your house? you’ve like.. completely altered the eco-system... but hey, it’s not like you destroyed it, rather enhanced it...... anyway, cuban anoles are really big, like 14 inches

Cubin Anoles ? There are many species of Anoles. The Cuban Knight Anole is about 14" long, but this is a different species than the "Cuban" anole. A Cuban anole is a brown anole, similar if not identical to a Bahama anole, and many others in and around these islands. The green anole is the only native to the US, but the brown anoles were brought in and let loose many years ago, and are almost as common in places like FL as the green anole. They tend to hang out further down in trees, toward the soil, than the green, so they don’t interfere with one another. And, yes, anoles need UVB light. Gordon

Cubin Anoles ? it is my understanding that the green anole isn’t native, it has just been here for a very long time before the browns... also, the brosn anoles are terrestrial, hich mean they prefer to live on the ground, rather than in the trees

Cubin Anoles ? Far as I know, and from all the books I’ve read, the green anole is native to the S.E. US, the only anole that is. A ’very long time,’ of course, is relative; they were here before we (humans)were. It also seems as likely as not that an anole of some species would appear on the tropical mainland, the Florida glades and Keys, as they would on small and separate Caribean islands. In any event, brown anoles are arboreal, but do spend more time on the ground and on the trunks, rather than (more) of their time in trees. Several sources list anoles by what height, or level, they spend most of their time in; bottom, middle, top. Most avoid the extreme top, as they are easy pickings for birds there. Best, Gordon

Cubin Anoles ? whoa.. you just contradicted yourself... anything that primarily lives on the ground is terrestrial, thats the only thing that seperates them form arboreal lizards, prefference.........

Cubin Anoles ? No contridiction; you didn’t read what I wrote correctly. I didn’t say primarily on the ground. I said lower down in the trees (the trunk area, and the lowest branches). Green anoles spend more time in the middle branches, but both anoles species will descend to the ground to find food (for eg, the green anoles all over my in-law’s backyard patio in S. FL) on occasion. All these species sleep nights on/in the trees, and all spend most of their waking time there. The patterns on the skin of the brown anole is clearly designed to camouflage them on trunks (not earth). They would not last long, predator-wise, if they spent most of their time on the ground. Just for the record, I’m reiterating what I’ve read in books and herp reports on anoles, and what I’ve observed personally. I’m not pretending to be an expert, personally, so if something I say is worded clumsily, I don’t really need to be called on it. All small anoles are tree dwelling, and not terrestrial. Best, Gordon

Cubin Anoles ?
Many plant nurserys in Texas bring in plants that have brown anoles in them and they are overtaking the green anoles there too.
