Im kinda new to anoles, HELP The only kind of heat rock I would use would be the kind with a control knob. Most heat rocks get hotter as they age and can severly burn lizards without the lizards knowing it. But the BEST thing to use is a heat lamp stationed over the highest branch. Be sure to test the temp. As for food pinhead crickets are great especially if you dust them with calcium and vitamins. Gutloading crickets is OK but the anoles won’t get much from the small stomachs that pinhead crickets have. Flightless fruit flies are really great too but don’t put in more than the anole can eat otherwise the flies will crawl right out. Being a baby anole feed it as much as it wants but don’t let any crickets roam the tank. Put them in one at a time and if the last one isn’t eaten take it out. You could leave it in there without any problems but sometimes the anole will ignore them for so long that the crickets gets hungry enough to try to take a bite out of the anole. The crickets also learn where the best places to hide are and then you have a temporary tank mate.

Im kinda new to anoles, HELP One of the main problems with anoles and a heat rock, or even a UTH, is that anoles don’t use the heat from a ground source to digest. There are other lizards, terrestial, that use ground heat to aid digestion, but like HerpKeeper said, Anoles are arboral which means they spend their time primarily in the trees or bushes. The best way of heating is a bulb.
