 Why Does an anole???

I have to anoles they are both males n and they don’t tend to fight. today i was looking in my tank and i only seen one. so i started to look around my room tryin to find him. then my brother said to check under the wood chips and i started to move them around and i found him burried in them. Why would he do this??

well there is alot of reasons but i would say its trying to cool dow or get away from the light, the reason why i say that is because i see lizards bury them self in the sahra desert to escape the heat.

Your anole that is hiding under the chip is more likely to be the less dominant of the two and they might be coming into sexual maturity. If they are of sexual age one will start to dominate over the other and may attack, injure or even kill the other. I highly suggest that you remove the two from the same cage before this happens. The less dominate one hides to seek refuge from the more dominate on and in the long run the lesser aggressive one may become so stressed out that he will eventually stop eating and deteriorate and may die. Anoles are very territorial when they become sexually mature and if you are thinking about breeding them i suggest that you aquire at least 3-6 females per male. Hope this helps!
